Interesting OM dial Constellation just sold.

An interesting Constellation just sold few minutes ago for £510. I thought it was quite nice with the solid gold dial and original box.

Typically, I was doing search on the reference and got bogged down on the many threads here, not to mention the 'Tell Us A Joke' thread and forgot about the listing - sure enough, sold by the time I got back.

Looks like all its money to me with that heavily water damaged dial and beat up case

I didn't know Omega cased OM dials in gold-capped cases. I thought the gold dials were mostly in solid gold cases...

This is what confused me too.
Original case melted down and dial put together with a gold cap case?

Looks like the onyx insert of the index at 11 o'clock is missing. I have an example in 18K yellow gold case, shown below. An English case ref.3685470/318492.

It does look pink.

Stunning watch. Is that date letter on the case not for 1989 though, the previous 'p' stamped year would have been 1964 but the font is different.

Just had a quick check and it seems the fonts on gold marks are different to silver, it is a 1964 date letter. Beautiful

I actually meant 64/65 but you are right that the hallmark is anomalous - it confused me too.
However, it’s not quite like the later mark either (More like the 78 D) and since it Is unlikely to have been made after 1970 and the ‘crown and 18’ were pre 75 hallmarks then you have to make allowances sometimes.

Top left corner, most noticeable between 9 and 12 o clock.

The Jansen watch looks great. For the avoidance of doubt, that is a Birmingham hallmark for July 1964 to June 1965. Regional marks were mid year until 1974 and each assay office used a different scheme until all marks were synchronised around a 1st Jan model in that year.

I am sure it's a transplant. At some point the original case was melted down and what was left eventually found its way into a capped donor.

Same destiny as this poor Certina DS:
