Import watch from Canada to the US

Hi all,

Has anyone imported a watch from Canada to the US and what are the taxes and duties to be considered?
I found a nice vintage watch in Canada and trying to estimate what it will cost to ship it to the US.
Any help, advice and previous experience from OF members is appreciated.

Depends on the value of the watch, how the cost worksheet is filled out, number of jewels, precious metal involved, if there's a broker involved, and who the broker is if there's one involved. Ive paid nothing, I've paid $16, and once, $30-something and had to register as an importer. Even knowing all that, no one can tell you what you will be asked to fork over except it will be a percentage of the watch value plus a brokerage fee and maybe some other fees and you might get a bill from your state for sales tax due.

Another point to consider - if you purchase the watch through an established sales platform (ie: Chrono24, eBay) state tax may be collected during the check-out process - even if you’re buying from a private individual.
