I think there are 3 or 4 marks maximum for original fat font inserts. The rest is service or fake and be careful with red back inserts because they are faked too.

Agreed, they’re all faked now and some are getting very good.

That’s how a Rolex trader would see it.

$2.500 for the movement.
$2.000 for the insert.
$3.000 for the case.
$1.000 for the bezel.
$700 for the strap.
$1.500 for the dial and hands.
-------
$10’700
-$1’007 -10% for eBay.
-$503 -5% for PayPal.
-------

$9.190

For all the parts, if I did not forget anything.
Now it is a lot of work to sell multiple parts so it comes to how greedy the buyer will be.
The gmt movements go up to 4K nowardays...

A service fatty.

In this case, blue and red color limit between 18.

No, the 18/8 dividing lines are not indicators for different bezel ages. This explanation was thrown about 5-6 years ago but has not held up. The bezels were dipped halfway to apply the red half and ended up having slightly different dividing areas that aren’t indicative of a service insert or particular time period. @xeramic on VRF has a good post about that explanation.

I agree that this insert looks like it dates to the late 60’s, because of the color/fade and triangle, but not because of the color split location.

Color fading isn´t indicator for nothing. For many years rogue dealers use fraudulent techniques to get fading on inserts and tritium plots.

I'm more relaxed with these new fat inserts from Rolex. I pay 50 pounds, euros, dollars or chf but I don't pay 500 or more because it's a burglary.

Were those techniques to apply the red half confirmed by Rolex?

She is taking it to an indy Rolex guy I recommended local to her. She also has a datejust from around 1941 as well. She is going to get an appraisal and repair estimate for both. My guess is she will sell them.

👍

Could we know later on if the insert is a red back?
