Nice. Alright Tex.
A scratched RO is the best looking RO.

I have the somewhat odd distinction of owning some of their collab watches, but never having really been an avid consumer of their content; just a guy that likes a watch with no date.
Having said that, their Reference Points series is pretty good.

LOL. You gave Dink too much credit. They don’t move the needles of RO and Nautilus bracket. That credit goes to Stern and his Tiffany x Patek 5711. That kind of hype can only be created by a much much larger beast with the cooperation of major auction houses. Dink doesn’t go there.

And no. Not wearing your RO is your choice.
My RO is too expensive to wear !…Is a “you” problem.

(more photos people. )

You realize the picture/article you post is #fakenews? The real story (also published on Ho!Donkey) goes more along the lines of that being a shill and then “the second highest bidder was given the chance” …

I wouldnt call it fake news when it was news and it did happened. 6.5M to 6.2M makes no difference in this context.
Old photo in my phone. Splitting hair here.

That VC CdV in steel and the Speedmaster were both amazing. The VC CdV was way out of my price range but I would've bought the Speedmaster if I didn't already own the FOIS.

I read it and have even bought a watch from them. A US release Ltd edition Seiko Alpinist in Blue. I wouldn't dream of buying a vintage piece from them though.

Most of the articles I can leave but occasionally they will come up with something good. One feature they did over lockdown was "My watch story", where non celebrities would submit videos talking about a watch they owned and their connection to it. I felt this was a feature that could run and run but it is no more. Maybe because it was taking up selling space?

When i am considering purchasing a watch (which is reasonably frequent😀) i do the normal google search as part of my research. More often than not, no matter what brand, a post from OF will come up in the search. As a testament to the breadth of knowledge on this forum i will rate that over any other source.

This is certainly the best place for me for honest and trusted opinions.

Yeah, that VC was quite the watch.
I have the IWC and the Zenith, of the two the Zenith will eventually get sold, but the IWC is just so perfect IMO.
Thought hard on both the Blancpains as well, but a little too rich for my blood.

Like Danwales said above, I highly doubt I'd buy a vintage watch from them tho.

I liked the weekend round up feature, where they posted links to articles about art, culture, sport or whatever. I go to their website quite often, sometimes there is something I might read, in the same way I would pick up a magazine in a waiting room, flick through it and maybe surprised. I certainly don’t rate it as serious watch site, but it can have some entertaining articles.

The comments were worth it, though.

Okay had a look - I might actually read more there if the comments are always that good! Wonder if the hashtag that someone posted will catch on... #notmydinkanymore

I thought this one was good too:

"The article essentially says "Dude, I got a Royal Oak. It's pretty brutal, right?!" I can go to WUS for that kind of insight. Actually, that's insulting to WUS."

Ouch! 😁

Some good writing and some bad. Ben just rubs me wrong, I can't exactly explain why (like when a waitress at a swanky restaurant asks "how were your first bites"). I try to avoid watch sites preoccupied with hype and monetization of the hobby. But, I am sure the dink don't care none about me.

Thank you!! About as infuriating as when retail or food service refers to us as a “guest”…no, I am a customer, if I were your guest I wouldn’t have to pay.

I don’t meet Hodinkee standards

I do have a PHD in life 😉

I've seen my fair share of advertising rate cards from major media entities. This is tasteless.

There are chestnuts at the Dink. One needs to dig harder these days. Agree Jack Fosters stuff is always interesting.

Just goes to confirm that writing adverts instead of retaining journalistic integrity seems at least to be paid much better.

In terms of Hodinkee in general, I agree with the criticism of content and cannot trust anything they say or write. However, they are very open about their business model and so I cannot really say that they are dishonest.
