Max was Huntsville. I did a quick search on him. http://www.maxwellhunter.com/ and his wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell_Hunter He was our consultant for E.R.P.S (Experimental Rocket Propulsion Society.) If anyone knew what Von Braun and the others was like he did. I got my questions answered at that dinner.

His wife Irene https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0543287/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm was equally fascinating and had a few stories herself. And she could still sing even at that age. Her stories about pre WWII Berlin Germany and the cabaret scene were also facinating. I wish I could remember them better.

I was always fond of operation Paperclip. The film Operation Crossbow, went full on James Bond. Some of these guys were my neighbors growing up. Most of them were accountants as much as engineers. They often had strange things in the garage and interesting hobbies.

Sometimes we forget there were real people behind all these fantastical things.

Labelling and compartmentalising, perhaps one of mankind's greatest achievements that has allowed us to thrive as a species but also one that encompasses perhaps some of our worst traits such as hatred, misunderstanding and war.
We tend to forget that our fellow man and women are complete fully functioning beings with agendas and personalities that are highly individualised, multiply that by 7 odd billions walking the planet and you come to realize that not everything can be encompassed in short easy answers such as films and what govt's like to portray.

This thread has drifted now onto page 13. And we are almost a quarter of the way into the 21st century. Perhaps we should put the 20th behind and not repeat the mistakes of the 17th.

Somehow we never seem to learn the lesson. Another film comes to mind "The best years of our lives." Wars are often fought by children for old men who want to relive the glory of their youth.

At least my youth was the glory of going to the moon. Too bad it was so boring. (Venus too hot, and mars too cold.)

A moon rock. Which we all got to hold (surprisingly light.)

This is one story that I find hard to believe. A moon rock being passed around at a dinner party? Don’t buy it.

Well if we are to believe, the Obama, Gates conspiracy people it was all shot somewhere in Florida or perhaps a Hollywood studio with poor lighting and granular film 😀

What a day it is on the forum. In one thread we’re talking about moon rocks being passed around and in another, the trip to the moon never happened…

i don't believe for a minute we ever went to the moon but that's an arguement for another day.

I do not think anyone could buy it 😉

It was actually a meeting of a Silicon Valley Rocketry group celebrating the quarter century of the moon landing. Hard to believe we have done nothing in the last quarter century either.

Curious thing, moon rocks are no different than earth rocks. So I guess it would be hard to prove should it ever get separated from the base with the inscription on it.

There are some who believe that removing similar rocks from Hawaii will curse the person offending the gods. Guess that is no different than acquiring something from the government.

It's obvious that there are differences in lighting and angle of both pictures but is this the same font/type?

The OP one seems to be broader, more pronounced..
Soooooo, I agree with Passover that the engravings look quite different. We blasted right by this with the craziness. Shall we go back to the watch before this thread gets locked?

I have heard stories from some of the people who worked at my agency back in the 70’s- I don’t discount anything being possible. It was a different time.

The simple answer could be that the pantograph operator responsible for doing the engravings was too lazy to change the cutter as it got blunter with each caseback.

"Ah...good enough for Government work."

When somebody provides identical hi-res photos of every caseback my theory will be validated. Or not.

I've got an X-33 that is supposedly ex-NASA. Thought I'd give it a try on a proof of concept basis.

This may be better than an extract of archives.

I can see the folks at NASA saying- what the fυck is up with all these watch verification requests recently!

The thought had occcurred to me....

I tried and failed to get an EoA from Omega. Kafka would have been proud: no number on the movement, can't lodge a request for an EoA without a movement number, put in a number using a string of zeros. Response: your movement number doesn't match our records.
