Affirmative. And I had more than one friend with it as a poster on their wall.

Yeppers…I remember the poster. Also, I remember buying those blank Maxell tapes (because of the advertisement) with hopes of having humongous sound via my knock-off “Sony Walkman” which was a Sanyo…no joy regarding the humongous sound. 🤪

My knock off walkman was also a Sanyo back in the day. Pretty sure my dad got it for me from the VA hospital canteen store where he liked to buy most electronics.

And why didn’t our parents buy us kick ass Nakamichi Dragon tape decks so that we could fully enjoy those kick ass Maxell tapes? This will never be known and is a mystery in our solar system (and galaxy). 🤔

To me the whole Maxell to TDK comparison is a bit of an analogue to Rolex and Omega where Maxcell was all about the marketing and TDK was all about performance.

No SA tapes close to hand for the photo just some NOS TDK's from down the chain.

Just as important is what you play them on, I always had plenty of choice for that with top end decks but luckily no Dragons lol nice as they are when they are working as should.

This was my last deck...Akai CS-732D auto reverse. Not my video but shows the quick reverse that happens in 1/4 of a second.

I always preferred TDK, with a Nakamichi BX300.

I had a BX300, bought it myself. No Dragon.
