(Have posted this on another forum for which I have been a 18 year member, but also wanted to share it with the community here).

First time poster here, but certainly not the first time visiting.

Wow, that looks amazing!

Seems like it’s not possible to upload a video (size restriction) so hopefully this link works.

OT2699 video

Omega has a write-up about this watch in its website. Omega has never confirmed production numbers, as far as I’m aware, other than to say it is “very rare” and was made in limited numbers for a “prominent Middle Eastern Client” in 1954.

I was hoping to the one the Omega Museum had bought in 2007, but alas it wasn’t on display in late 2024.

Welcome here and congratulations for owning this beautiful watch!
Since it is very exceptional and others will be interested in, I would suggest to change the title of the thread to make it more specific. You could make it easier to find.

welcome @zhixi

Interesting watch.

There seems to be slight variations of these dials but yours is very different to the others out there as it has an 'opalescent' enamel dial, whereas others are 'flat'.

It would be useful if you could give us some of the backstory of the watch and how you came by it - and more pictures of the case please (sides and rear would be good)

A quick google shows that there were some after market replacement dials kicking around that have the '3D' look and the wavy edge to the central field.

Thanks UMG. Not sure how to change the title but will do so once I’ve worked it out.

Here are some extra pictures. The link you sent is for a different movement which I believe has different feet. This watch is a cal 354 with the correct case back and serial numbers (in terms of range).

Re dial specifics, I’ve given some thought to this too. The photos from Omegamania and Phillips auctions are static. No videos of this the watch exist (other than a few seconds in the 2nd John Goldberger Hondinkee talking watches video). Secondly, it’s hard to say how or how differently these dials could have aged over the past 70 years, because there are so few around.

Re provenance, I believe im the third owner. The seller purchased it in 2006 from the original owner, who had it since the 50s.

Additionally, here’s pages 188-191 from the book “The Watch” by Alexander Barter showing a range of dials made by Stern Freres and Huguenin & Cie in the 1950s. This style of cloisonné enamel does exist.

The Omegamania Auction 2007 shows an identical watch (page 318f) but no pictures of the case-back. Estimated 20....30k. Does anyone know the results?

Glad you brought up the case back issue.

The 2007 Omegamania watch purchased by the Omega Museum was not 100% original, im my estimation, and Omega knows it.

1) The description states "In addition, it has a solid screw-down caseback embossed with a now-classic astronomical observatory emblem". Clearly, the photo on the Omega website does not show a screw-down caseback, but rather a press-in caseback. If you cilck on the PLUS symbol next to the caseback photo, this statement is shown "One of the earliest Constellation casebacks embossed with the now-classic astronomical observatory is found on this gold Omega Automatic Chronometer, 1953, another treasure from the Omega Museum." The decription is quite perculiar.

2) Based on the big Constellation thread here, it's stated that all OT2699 were "grand luxe" models. This is consitent with decription in 'Omega, A Journey Through Time' book. In other words, this specific model should all have come with a 18K gold bracelet. There's little information on which particular bracelet came with this watch per se, but the ref OT2799, shown here, also from 1954, features the same ref 1500 bracelet I have.

No matter - I think I found it
If it is the one you are referring to - It certainly appears to have more depth but not as much as the OPs

Don't place too much store by all of the info in the Ultimate Constellation thread.
Whilst good work by @PlainVanilla some of the info is harvested from the web and is not all accurate.
Also terms like Grand Luxe and Deluxe have been misused often (even by Omega themselves)

I do think the info on Omega's website is misleading as they show a different case back to the description in the section above to illustrate the early observatory.

The listing in AJTT does also mention a 1953 2700 'non-water resistant' case (presumably they mean "snap-back'?)

Edit:
if you expand the text box on the Omega website it does tell you more about the caseback
