Hello everyone,

up for grabs today is a rather lovely early 60s Seamaster, reference 14779. Many of you will know the 166.010, possibly the most succesful Seamaster Omega produced in the 60s. Those were date versions, but there was a 165.010 as the more elegant, date-less counterpart, produced in much smaller numbers. Well, the 14779 is the predecessor, introduced in 1961, in my opinion the first reference to really make a step towards 1960s aesthetics.

This particular example is one of the more uncommon configurations and, to my eyes, one of the most desirable. Non-luminous, very cool monochrome appearance, nicely symmetrical without that date window, and a stunning brushed dial structure. Also, it’s fully original to the last detail: Even the plexi and the crown are the period-correct, original flat-feet-logo versions.

The Watch

Omega Seamaster
Reference: 14779
Movement: cal. 552 full-rotor automatic
Serial: 19026653
Year: ca. 1961
Case: 35mm, stainless steel
Dial: Original silver dial, vertically brushed structure, stainless steel indices, non-luminous
Strap & buckle: Flatlink, Beads of Rice or leather strap available, see pics and info below.

Condition

Dial & Hands: The original dial is in great shape. There is a minute spot around 10 o clock that I’ve tried to highlight in the close-ups, but it’s only visible in very certain angles/light conditions. Hands are also original, non-luminous, and show a bit of deterioration. This is almost a bit nit-picky though, as you can see the dial is an absolute showstopper.

Case: Original 35mm stainless steel case. It’s very sharp, all the edges are beautifully preserved. Minute scratches everywhere, as you’d expect from a 60+ year old watch that hasn’t seen significant polishing. Even the original brushing on the sides and around the hippocampus are intact.

Crown: The 14779s had a very specific, thin crown that’s very hard to find. This one still has its original example with the flat-feet logo, as it should be.

Crystal: Original, flat-dome Omega crystal with the period-correct flat-feet logo in good condition.

Movement: Original ca. 552 full-rotor automatic. The movement is in great shape, visually and mechanically. It’s been fully serviced last month and runs accordingly.

Strap & Buckle: I’ll offer three options:
1. On a new, black leather strap
2. On a 1502 5-row Beads of Rice bracelet
3. On a 1035 Flatlink bracelet

Seller Reviews

Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Anyway:

I’m also happy to provide verification through my eBay-account that has been standing for 20 years, with >2000 reviews, 100% positive. Please do ask.

Payment, Shipping & Returns

Payment is accepted via PayPal F&F, bank transfer, Wise (in other currencies, too) or cash in person. Happy to meet you for a personal transaction, of course. Coffee’s on me.

I’m asking

980€ on the black leather strap

or

+190€ for the Beads of Rice bracelet, good for a ca. 19cm wrist

or

+790€ for the Flatlink bracelet, good for a ca. 18,5cm wrist

Please do note that I’ll prioritize a sale on the flatlink.

The watch is located in Germany. Shipping is 6€ within the country, 16€ within Europe/Switzerland/UK, and ca. 40-50€ for the rest of the world.

No returns, please, unless I misrepresented the watch in any way.

And now, some pictures. Let me know if you require more or a certain angle I might have missed or a video.

And some on the BoR:

And on the leather strap:

Some close ups!

The vertical brushing just looks fantastic:

Non-luminous:

The tiny, laser-etched flat-feet logo on the plexi

And a look at some flaws under 30x magnification

Some scratching on the tension ring of the plexi

The tiny spot I mentioned around 10 o clock

With some sunlight and a very specific angle, here's a very pronounced picture of it. Please ignore the dust and minute scratches on the plexi.

The original crown:

The original brushing arund the sharp hippocampus

Sharp edges; brushed sides

To me, by far the best match is indeed the flatlink. It's such a quiet design, it doesnt take away from the brushed dial, and actually highlights it with the same kind of brushing on its inner links.

Beautiful example from one of OF's best members and sellers. And he takes much better photos than I do. 😁

Awesome. Those 18mm flatlinks were typically paired with the technical dials of the late 60’s and look awesome on them…but not found in the wild often.
