How long have you been on the cal. 321 waiting list?

Yikes. What a dilemma. Perhaps a lot of people are passing on this watch hence why I got the call. This does make me nervous a little…
Let me share my experience.

When I put down my name in HK boutique about a couple of years ago, I was VERY into the watch and it's a MUST.

When I got the call/message end of last year, at first I wasn't quite sure because at the time my interest in watches in general have waned abit, not to mention that I've already got quite a few watches in a short span of 3 years (NTTD, 3590.50, speedy trilogy, Pepsi).

However, as I came to look at the watch in person at the boutique, it really is a no brainer that this is probably the best modern high-end speedy that one should get - even though I'm really broke now lol. This ALSO comes down to personal taste - I like the details that only enthusiasts know, and the historical reasons behind. If you are not into that, you can still notice the big difference in the dial depth alone.

Agree with the above posts that it's up to you whether your are comfortable with shelling this kind of money. My 2 cents is that you should go to the boutique to look at the watch first, and you can decide then whether to pass it up. Of course if you pass it up and want this again in the future, you may need to purchase from grey (nothing wrong with that).

Thanks. I am definitely going to have a look at it in the flesh. I really do like the pro case, Lyra lugs, it’s a little less blingy due to slightly more brushed etc. so let’s see! I’m lucky enough to have the cash available for the watch, but if it doesn’t sing to me what is the point. Now a 321 in a pro case…..

Personally, I much prefer the straight lug case, it's a simpler design and makes winding a real pleasure. Check it out, of course, but I'll predict it will sing to you once it is in your hands.

Concur with @Evitzee . Also to add - there are literally thousands of speedies with lyre lugs, and the straight lug ones are definitely more special (and wears well), at least to my eyes.

Long time lurker (before registering an account) and first time poster! Just wanted to contribute to this thread - I registered my interest end of Dec 2021, surprisingly got the call (actually, a whatsapp message) on 23 Nov (2023). For what its worth, I am based in Hong Kong, with only one prior purchase history (NTTD) and purchased another bracelet.

Although earlier on I did chat on whatsapp with the sales associate about omega watches, I didn't actively correspond frequently on the same.

I wish I got a free strap and deployment like Seamaster1977 above, but I don't think HK boutiques do that often (at least for non-vip customers like me).

Think this practice is now a thing of the past as my a friend of mine says the remit is no discounts or free gifts etc. They are definitely tightening up. I count myself lucky. However, the strap was a cheeky bonus! Still love the 321, hard watch to beat indeed.

I will be seeing this in the flesh on Tuesday but likely to pass for the time being unfortunately. I love all the history and at the time was interested. But after 3 years I’ve moved on a little etc and other priorities have overtaken watches.

Be sure to report back with your impressions after you see it. 😁

Passed on the watch. Hopefully somebody else can get the opportunity to buy the beauty.

I’m curious - why did you decide to pass? Underwhelmed after seeing it in the flesh?

The case to me is less interesting. Although not many straight lug speedmaster, plenty of straight lug watches. In addition I was not keen on lume colour. Professional case with 321 and I’m in.

Around 18 months now.
Meantime I’ve purchased an actual Ed White so I’m not even sure I’d want to buy the modern release if it was offered to me…

This is how I'm kinda feeling too. Tried on the Canopus 321 and it didnt really wow me. Time to save up for the platinum 321 instead 😁

Very interesting that I have the complete opposite view - and that's what makes it fun! Hope that you will get your dream 321 with professional case some day! For modern ones they may need to tread carefully though so that they don't kill their current 3861 line with the professional case.

I am also wondering if they have to do a professional case in steel - what can they do to (1) gauge enough interest from enthusiasts to buy one (for eg, if it's a professional case with white dial?); and (2) not affect the potential buyers from their bread and butter 3861.

I personally would wish the next steel 321 to be in ck-2998 form - but then again that may piss the owners who had the FOIS.

If you have the OG 321 I don't think you need to buy the modern release.

One of the reasons as to why I bought the modern 321 in the first place is it may be very very difficult for me to find a genuine, great condition and at a price that I can comfortably wear without worrying too much.

Yes the modern 321 is very expensive and I still do wear it with great care. However, this will be different when wearing a good example vintage 321.

And no future problems with service. Too many 321s have been buggered about over the last 50+ years, making them a challenge to sort out unless you have access to a pretty small bunch of 321 boffins who can source whatever parts that are needed to bring the watch to spec. When my two year old 321 needs a service in around five years Omega won't have any issues bringing it to spec.

They got the lume colour right for this one though. Prefer contrast or black dial with white coloured lume
