Hi, is this a Frankenwatch?

Hi! This is my first time posting here so apologies if I make any mistakes!

I got this watch at a flea market and the only reason why it got it is because
1. It reminds me of my late father’s watch that I used to remember playing with as a kid…when he died (I was only 17 at the time) my brother got the watch and I always remembered it…we are estranged so I’ve never seen the watch again
2. I like the style and thought it’s cool
3. It was like $150 or so, so didn’t think it was much to lose

I opened up the back and it’s a 168.029, attaching some pics here but is this the right mechanism for it? I think it’s supposed to be a calibre 751 but I don’t see anything on it that says it. I don’t mind it if it’s not because I like the watch itself but just curious so thought I’d ask the experts here! It does keep time well and all that and it should be over 50 years old! Many thanks in advance!

Concerning only the caseback, I think it may just be the wrong one, it should be a 168.057 or a 168.064.
Could have been mistakenly replaced during a previous service or the original could have been damaged.

This is a 1021 movement, not a 751. For $150, it's a very good deal, Franken or not.

Oh thank you! I didn’t know what calibre it was because I searched all the various numbers I could see and pics of a 751 actually say “751” which is why I was wondering if it just was a mishmash of parts maybe? I know my dad’s watch came on a brick style bracelet so I’ve been looking online to see if I could find one to put on it. Do you know approx what year this might be from? I do recall maybe his had the little star on the dial.

If this is the case, then he had a slightly earlier reference. Here are my notes on C-case Constellations that have the references broken down. I do need to update the links for the calibers to the new website as the old site went down.

That thread in general will have a lot of information for you on this watch.

Nice watch for $150. I’d put a proper sized strap on it though, that one’s a couple of mm too narrow.

I know! Plus it’s some reptile strap and I don’t like the black on it either. Gonna look for another one this weekend!

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with vintage watches in general, but you’ll need to get that serviced prior to wearing. Let us know whereabouts you are and a recommendation might be available

I’m near Philly but on the NJ side…what do you think needs to be done/what should I ask for? I have a watch guy who services my other watch (I have a Rolex Yachtmaster) so I could also send it to him but he’s in CA.

This looks like a dome crystal, so case is wrong as well, it's a 168.029 case - I'd say just the case is worth $150+

Maybe this watch, or another variations, when I first saw one, I was extremely surprised, quite surprising that a later gen fits so easily into an earlier gen, but behind the scenes, there could be damage to the case or the dial, more likely the dial, it's already redialed, so quite likely other modifications as well
