If it passes the eBay authenticator (which I figure is probably not a large task), can you still successfully claim fake or not as described? If yes, what’s the purpose of the authenticator?
Typically no, but this listing specifically has a 30 day return window (probably on accident).
That said, based on @ndgal comparisons pics above I’m feeling way better about it. Really appreciate him correcting and educating and sharing his knowledge, exactly why I posted here!

Funny that nobody has mentioned the Tritium. Funny that ebay allows this to ship
Tritium has a short half life. By now it’s definitely not dangerous. Radium, on the other hand…

Again, the case back (and case) are fine. They’re not fake.

The type of the caseback is different from the OPs. Were there variations in the service caseback engraving?

Yes.

If I have to choose between Tom or Nadav with respect to a 166.024, there's no question whose opinion I will take.

I agree with whoever says what I want to hear. It's sometimes referred to as Foxstigmatism.

At $9kUSD, I still can't wait to see the movement.

I doubt I would have dropped 9 Large without a few pictures. But........I always wear a belt with my suspenders and have a parachute on my back.

There is a 30-day return policy. Not much risk here except for perhaps the timing of the extract.

YOLO! Only glad I can provide entertainment to the members of OF (...the less fun OF*). Agree with @timoss I'm in a fortunate position where if it's legit, it's below market, and if it's not, I can get my $ back, so why not go for it?

Ok. Confusing. So who's right?

I'm never going to buy a 300 again.

I don't know. While it's fairly easy for me to resist the 165.024/166.024 models, if I found a nice straight-lug version ... that's a different story.

Interesting thread indeed 😵‍💫
Recently I bought a SM300 from this site, from what I can see it has a similar backcase.

I guess we all have to wait for the Seamaster Only book to arrive 📖

Sometimes I would like to be as certain as other members. Maybe I have a bad eye for watches. Even after years of collecting I often still cant see what other members can see. Ah.. those doubts...

So, good news and bad news.

It does look to be the original case, bracelet, movement, and caseback -- the caseback is just in almost-NOS condition.

The bad news -- I'm pretty sure it's a very good relume job. Under blacklight, you can see multiple colors of lume in the big triangle, the lack of a pin dot, and that the various index markers are have very, very uneven edges. Grateful I spent the $8 on a UV blacklight flashlight on Amazon, because it isn't nearly as noticeable in regular lighting conditions.

Leaning towards returning this to the vendor -- thanks all.

I’m not seeing what you’re seeing on the video. Why is it a relume? It looks original to me.

Because it is all original.
