A friend of mine was gifted this watch by his grandfather. He was wondering if it's the famous reference st 105.012. I don't think it is because it says "meister" below professional. He does have the original bracelet but he changed it because it didn't fit him. I don't have a picture of the watch box, but it's this one https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7845/32343411177_1d80c0103d_c.jpg&imgrefurl=https://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&th=2403731&start=0&docid=e_yrVKz31VGoDM&tbnid=HiROWrBYCCnpDM:&vet=1&source=sh/x/im).

As far as I understand, it was purchased somewhere around 1969 but it was not manufactured at that date.

It doesn't feature the elements characteristics of a post 1969 Moonwatch. What's throwing me off is the marking of "meister" on the dial. I have searched around and haven't found a similar one from the time period.

If any of you has any information regarding what reference number it is, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think he wants to open the watch to see the case number, I don't know if it's completely necessary to do so.

Without seeing the case reference and movement serial numbers it’s hard to be certain but the most likely reference is 145.012 not 105.012. The Meister on the dial is a retailers addition and makes it more collectible (and valuable) to some.

Although the bracelet is an aftermarket one (and should be replaced with an Omega one IMO), the watch is in amazing, pretty much collector, condition:
    - Dot Over Ninety Bezel (you see how the 90 is located under the dot on the tachymètre bezel?) in excellent condition
    - the hippocampus case back does not show any signs of scrapes or deep scratches that would have resulted from an unqualified watchmaker trying to open it with the wrong tools
    - the handset seems all original
    - the dial is in amazing condition with applied logo and with the added "Meister" stamp, which is the name of a Swiss authorized retailer which used to sell these watches and would print its name on the dial. As @Dash1 said, adds a lot of collectibility

By the way, a quick search around here will show you other previous discussions on this topic: https://omegaforums.net/threads/1966-omega-speedmaster-meister-dial.49212/

All in all, your friend has gotten himself a stunner!! I hope him and his family will keep enjoying it... but otherwise, DIBS!!! :D

Thanks for the info. I'll try to see if he wants to open it.

Thank you for all the information. You are right about the band being aftermarket. It's just the original one doesn't fit him, and trying to source a spare link that's original was quite expensive.

I do know his grandfather wore it for like 20 years so it's amazing it's in this condition.

Thank you for all the information. I did see those discussions, but I wanted to be sure. So, there is no way of knowing if it's a lemania 321 without opening it?

I agree with what you said, but the 105.012 had a beveled caseback and the pushers were flat.

So it's more likely a 145.012 or 145.022-68. The crown would be matching then.

A washed dial with no lume would never be classified under the "amazing" category (at least for me).

There was one similar washed Meister dial listed on eBay in November or December last year. One of those auction listings that never come to the end... I am wondering if this is it, now creating a story to the watch.

@Rutherford order an extract from the Omega Archives, see if if was produced for Swiss market, and don't forget to tell us here if it was :whistling:
