All this talk of Schumacher and drivers using a watch whilst on track reminded me of a photo I had somewhere - Still couldn't find it, but here's one from the web. Err - Casio ???

Alain De Cadenet, very successful in the 1970's and 1980's as a privateer racing driver and a Supermarine Spitfire owner, owns a nice Speedmaster 105.012-66 bought new. All round dude. You have to check out this youtube vid for a good laugh as well as seeing a Speedy in close proximity to a Spitfire : Wikipedea page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_de_Cadenet Checking out another vintage Speedy:
Bumping this thread after I was pleasantly surprised to learn that 1996 F1 world champion Damon Hill wore a Speedy while racing. He even swapped the bracelet for a leather strap at some point. https://monochrome-watches.com/the-petrolhead-corner-spotted-damon-hill-race-worn-omega-speedmaster/
Superb thread, thank you! Now that I know Walter had a Mark III, I now have a reason why I definitely need that watch sooner or later
Great thread revival, good to read about the rally legend Walter Röhrl. The Mk III would definitely be a difficult watch to wear while driving in a rally Here’s a wonderful account of the rivalry between the 4WD Audi Quattro and the 2WD Lancia 037 - plenty of Röhrl talking about the races, and it looks like he’s swapped over permanently to wearing his watch on his right wrist..
