How much is the seller asking?
I think you are overthinking the lume color. If this was a watch I was interested in not for one second would the lume color deter me.
I own a 2541.80 with a new dial installed by Omega last year and the lume leans green in normal lighting. Just a bit. I also have a 2531.80 with a new dial installed by Omega last year--same thing.
It’s not the lume color. It’s the color of the marker in daylight
It’s not the lume color. It’s the color of the marker in daylight.
Actually I couldn’t care less if it has lume or not, even less the color of it.
Nono! I’m not concerned it’s fake. What I am trying to find out is that if maybe there were different batches of superluminova that made some look greener and other whiter. And if that is the case, if this specimen is one of the former.
I really want to buy it as everything else looks great and the price is ok.
But this one thing is bothering me.
Every Omega Seamaster from that era that I have ever handled has that greenish tinge to the lume. As others have said, you are overthinking it.
USD 3.300 with box and papers and landed total cost (post tax and everything).
very fair price
For the apparent condition and the presence of box and papers, I would agree. There's a bit of a premium in those things.
The only question I would have is how well it is running and when it was last serviced. If it is running well but the service history is unknown, I would probably take it to a boutique and have a water resistance test done and budget the cost of a service in the next 5 years or so.
A bit of encouragement for @OmegaBorder :
The color is the lume aging - totally normal for a 25 year old watch. What are they asking for it?
No it’s not that. These looked like this the day they were made. SL on Bonds can look green or white depending on the light. It’s normal. The only thing that degrades SL is moisture and I don’t see that here. Omega used subtly different shades of SL on the various SMP models. 2254s look whiter. Titanium models can look slightly yellow. It varies.
Thank you Padders! So what you are saying is that all SL on 2531s are the same correct? Meaning if I see the markers of this example greener than most others I see on the web/youtube/instagram it’s just the picture and lighting?
This is the only thing keeping me from buying the watch.
As noted above by others the apparent colour of the markers changes radically with lighting. In bright sunlight they can look white. In shade after you have been in bright sunlight they look green as they are glowing imperceptibly and in the reduced light your eye has the bandwidth to detect the shade. You don’t find white models and green models if that is your question. There will be variation as the dials were made for years but in general the Bond round indices are greener than some of the sword hand designs of the same era as different lume was used for each.
Here is my 2351.80 with white/lime green markers from the late 90s/early 00s. I can grab other ones in different light conditions. Believe the markers are tritium, was right around the time of the changing over to Superluminova.
Easiest way to tell is a lume shot. Tritium-green, Superluminova-blue.
