Hi everyone I recently took a bet on this eBay listing:

This is my first speedy pro after many MK IIs and I would love everyone's thoughts.

I believe it has the correct C2 dial, movement is 39,185,XXX, inside case back marked -76 HF, and an earlier Type 7 bracelet.

Any feedback appreciated since this is my first pro.

I’ll let the experts weigh in, but you identify this watch as a 1976 145.022 and the inside cover says it’s a 1978 145.022. I believe that a 1976 should have an 1171 bracelet with 633 end links and the Omega symbol set inside a trapezoid on the clasp.

Followed this auction too, it is a 145.022-78. Likely with an earlier bracelet as the 1116 was phased out by that time.

@bunthit, congratulations, this was a very, very good buy regardless!

Sometimes it is difficult to tell on these casebacks, at a glance the 76 looks like 78, but this one is definitely 76.

Looks like that to me too.

You’re both right. I looked at the case back more closely and it is a 76. I believe that I’m correct that the bracelet and clasp are incorrect for this reference. Should be an 1171/633 and the trapezoid with the Omega logo on the clasp.

Yes, indeed. On closer inspection I agree on 145.022-76. Based on the serial and ilovespeedmaster, it would likely be an early one.

Unless someone swapped the dial for an earlier one , it was quite obvious that it couldn't be a 78.
As shown by the serial, its an early 76.

This made me kind of sentimental since my first Speedmaster was a -74 with the (too early) 1116 bracelet🥰

On a side note, looking at the auction, how did the "Authenticity Guarantee" process work for you?

Thanks everyone for the feedback -- I am very happy with how the watch turned out. One case where the pictures being bad was fine... also I would suggest not taking pictures on a shag carpet.

On a side note, looking at the auction, how did the "Authenticity Guarantee" process work for you?

The "Authenticity Guarantee" didn't really do much. The seller said he could ship to me or to the authentication people I said to send to them out of curiosity. It added a day or two to ship times. Once the item got to them they seemed to have repackaged it. They "checked" it added a watch bracelet tamper tag and put it in this eBay case:

The box packaging it came in was also all eBay branded. I am not sure what they did to check or not.

This made me kind of sentimental since my first Speedmaster was a -74 with the (too early) 1116 bracelet

That's a beauty and I do think think the tritium is aging really nicely on a lot of these 1970s speedys. Is it possible some came with the 1116 bracelet? Or does anyone think dealers may have sold them back then and people swapped due to style/comfort/choice? I am just curious why someone would put an older potentially rarer/more expensive band on one and it sounded like yours came with one too.

Hmm I don't think so since the 1116 was last seen on the 145.012. I actually bought mine instead of the 1171 since I thought it was a bit more fun than the more common 1171. Not sure what the 1116 goes for these days but at the time it was like $100 more expensive than the 1171 which made the choice easy for me even though it wasnt correct for the reference 😀 Just as a heads up, the 1116 is a PAIN to adjust though.

Here is a guide I think works for the 1116 as well if I remember it corrrectly: https://omegaforums.net/threads/shortening-omega-1098-bracelet.72139/

It’s a correct -76

Early dial as expected for the serial, correct bezel.
Matching lume on hands and dial. Looks pretty good love to see it natural light.

normally the lume goes slightly green but your slight amber is not unexpected.

bracelet is period correct and could be original. These could have gotten a few different bracelets. They left the factory head only.

Not like I study this sub reference...
