All, I am looking into a 40th present and considering a 1976 Speedy. The following two look in good shape and with original items as far as I can tell, having looked at Speedmaster 101, but I would appreciate any advice from the forum. http://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/vin...essional-chronograph-moonwatch--id4915746.htm http://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/spe...with-papers-145022---76st-2223--id4876263.htm Many thanks! PS New member of the forum and finding it a very useful resource. Thanks to all involved!
While the one with the extract indeed appears to be from 1976, the other one might not be: sellers often incorrectly believe (or just claim) that the '76' in the 145.922-76 caseback text means that the watch was produced in that year. The one with the extract is on the expensive side. Sure, it has the extract and a 1171/633 but then it's still in the 'collector' column of the speedmaster101 table price-wise. Of course it could just be that good, but the words "comes fresh polished by our watchmaker" strike fear in my heart.
I think I saw that same watch for sale around CHF2500 last year... and didn't want to pay that much for a 76..
Keep your eye on eBay for a 145.022-74 (if you want a watch that is more likely to have been produced in 1976) or for 145.022-76 if you prefer the caseback inscription. They're not terribly rare and with a sharp eye you can identify them fairly quickly.
Both seem expensive. Check out this one too: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Omega-Sp...936930?hash=item5b2c1a2d22:g:b6EAAOSwAuZX3QqlPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Based on the serial numbers I would guess that both of those examples were produced in 1976. Additionally they both have the short "S", which was replaced on the later '77 dialed examples.
