And to echo @TTG 's message, I have been chomping at the bit to buy a GMT and researched the various references, decided upon the one that would best fit my needs and went about hunting one down, almost buckled and bought a unit without box or papers and held out just a few more days and low and behold up she popped on Craigslist. Patience and due diligence really is paramount. Oh and once again, thanks to all on OF for sharing their knowledge and passion for all things that tick!! 馃憤

Dear all,

I heard that one can easily go to a RSC and change out the aluminium bezel insert like from all black to pepsi or coke at affordable rate like $75 only. If this is true, why does such inserts selling a few hundreds online? Thanks for sharing.

You answered your own question, RSC sells for $75 and they sell for hundreds on line... = Profit

I'll take it a step further, it is not as easily as going to an RSC to change out in some parts of the world, like the US. Some RSCs sell parts over the counter. In the US is very tough, unless you know a dealer/watchmaker with a parts account. Others RSCs do not sell over the counter, parts have to be swapped out, color for color. For example, If you have a black insert and go to an RSC to buy a Pepsi, some may not sell it..

@TTG are the RSC's in Europe more accommodating?

I think they are more liberal than in the US for sure.. Some ADs are also accommodating to their good customers. It's nice to have a honey hole to get hard to find parts at reasonable prices versus having to go to an AD that will have to ship to an RSC or overseas for some odd part replacement/repair. And/or they want to replace your old tritium dial/hands.. These old things we love...

Thanks TTG! I am just asking if i ever got a gmt master, I would love to change out the insert for some variety. I guess I have to check with RSC in my own country if they are willing to allow a insert change of colour.

Modern inserts are cheap and very easily sourced on the gray market, I wouldn't worry too much about it. First, make sure you find a nice GMT, heck, for all you know it might even come with multiple inserts.

that is true, some of the sales on trf include one, two, sometimes all three variations

Don't suppose anyone has a contact with a Rolex parts account in the US that could help?

To help in the sourcing of reasonably priced inserts was all...seeing as our European brethren can effectively buy them over the counter at their AD's...

About $200 for a new one, vintage is probably around $500 and up for black and $800 and up for Pepsi. As always, make sure you check them thoroughly, lots of fakes around.
