Stating the obvious, hands look to be later replacement. You need better pictures of the lugs and also the reference/Serial #'s between the lugs.

Great Thread I would love a 16710
The 16710 was my grail watch forever. Finally pulled the trigger this year.

Different shades sure....this is almost black and white...I'd say they're replacements...not even sure if tritium.

Thanks for sharing. But some original owners in trf post pics of their late 1980s/early 1990s showing the shame or even more discrepant shades between hours markers and hands.

Hi guys,

Will the missing bevel edges on this watch, put u off the purchase?

From what I've read Rolex stopped applying chamfers to the GMT case at a certain point and perhaps on other models too. Not sure when the transition took place though...

Hi the seller stated that it's all original. He says it's common for dial and hands with different level of patina

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=97366

Just saw your posts on this thread..
Bologna with that seller, sounds like a used car salesman...
Tritium does patina even on those white gold surround dials but when you see a dial like that with dark colors, it is obvious something was replaced... Dial or hands, they do not appear to have been born together.
I will mention those pictures are not the best so I am going based on the contrast of the colors on the one picture..

anyone have any opinion on the 16760 the fat lady? Will you buy 1 if there's some flaws in the dial? Appreciate the sharing and learning opportunity!

Yes, I have and would...
A couple have sold recently on TRF in the mid-$5Ks, there is also one listed with a service dial in the same price range...
Good luck and be patient!

Dear TTG,

Will the watch suffer a lot in terms of reduced value if the hands is indeed replacement and not original?

Thanks for the help thus far!

In the collection world, originality is foremost, i.e., buying a watch that is period correct and everything looks as if it aged together, especially with patina.
The hands being lighter/replaced becomes an aesthetic issue. Can you live with a watch that when you look at it, the contrast in colors, hands pop out for being so white or in another case the dial?
With this particular watch, you could try to source a set a hands that match, which may prove difficult, or have them color matched.
Now having a beater or project watch at the right price is something else to consider, knowing that you may pay a bit more money. To me, the case has to be very good to consider the project.
Now, if you are happy with the case of this watch, you could always have the watch serviced and dial/hands replaced with factory service luminova parts, or source original tritium dial/hands in the secondary market.
There are lots of 16700 and 16710 series watches out there. Don't make a haste move that you may regret or spend more money that if you continued shopping, you could get everything you want. Sometimes paying a bit more and getting the right piece with everything you want is the way to go. If you have a particular budget, that may limit your options.
Some folks do not see watches as investment but why not, they are worth a pretty penny.
Just be patient and everything will come together..

Dear TTG and all,

Really huge thanks and appreciation to your sharing! It definitely reins me in and help me to be a better watch collector. I see a watch now as a project which should not be rushed and importantly, know what we want and pay the right price. Thanks all!

I've purchased a GMT with mismatched tritium hands from the dial. I didn't think it would be a big deal but it really bugged me when I was wearing the watch. Of course an option was to have the hands colored matched, but that would negate any savings I had by purchasing the watch with the known issue in the first place. I learned my lesson the hard way and so now what patiently for a watch in as good of condition as possible. And there are watches in great condition as these 1675, 16750, and 16710 are actually pretty common.

You lucky duck! was walking around manhattan yesterday and saw a very bummy looking polished 16710 or couldve been a very polished 16750 (unlikely) at a closing jewelry store. everything was "40% off" until their lease renewed or something. shame the watch maker wasnt in the house and the sales lady didnt know jack about the watch except what the tag read. 🙁 back to the drawing board 🍿

also pictures man, pictures!
