Clearly there's a bubble with these 5-digit GMT Master II. Anyone here with a nice 16710 should sell it to me before the whole thing collapses 馃槜

I'm really wanting to add a Rolex to the collection and preferably something that can function as a daily driver to spare my '68 speedy and have come to the conclusion that the 16710 Pepsi would be the perfect timepiece, travel, swim, bumps and scrapes, watching the insert fade over time and passing a nicely patinated / faded GMT down to my son. As many have remarked pricing is on the up and most likely won't be going down anytime soon. Now a unit has popped up locally, an F serial from 2005 in good shape but without box or papers.. the asking is $6k. Considering the current market vectors, the fact that I intend on wearing and using this piece and the lack of box or papers, which I'm not too bothered about as I'm not concerned with resale on this one would you advise me to make a move on this watch? Thanks in advance lads and ladies!!

Certainly a good price, especially if it's local and you can hold it in your hands before you buy. Any pics?

personally i prefer if it included box and papers and my recent posts on the rolex forums have attracted some sellers messaging an F serial, with box and papers at $7850 and claimed "lower than most" but this is a sales post that followed some one trying to sell a gmt master "NOS" for $24k 馃檮

It all depends on condition. If it needs service, add $600 which then gets you borderline to the B&P territory. With current market conditions, anything in the $6.5-7.0K is the sweet spot for B&P.

I prefer the 16710 in 2001-2003 period, best of both worlds as they say, SEL + Lug hole = true tool watch I thinks 馃榾

anyone have any opinion on the 16760 the fat lady? Will you buy 1 if there's some flaws in the dial? Appreciate the sharing and learning opportunity!

The luxury watch market seems fractured right now. Some models still command premiums, while others are falling off. Iconic models like the GMT/GMT2 Pepsi have appreciated considerably and seem to be holding value. I think we're seeing a relatively large supply for sale because the prices are still good and folks want to capitalize. With huge segments of the resale market falling folks are looking to lock in these prices before the GMTs tumble in price like so many others. Perhaps these sellers are looking to make a new purchase on some depressed models.

upon reading this, a meme image of the Emperor Palpatine came into my mind and the inscription says Patient my young apprentice, your time for a gmt/gmt2 will come

This is my Rolex GMT 1992 N series 16710. My most comfortable 40mm watch for my small 6.5 inch wrist. I do enjoy wearing it.

That also seems to be the sweet spot in pricing. If you go older you're possibly paying "collectible" prices. Newer is, well, newer and commands higher prices. There are plenty of early 2000's GMT2's out there for sale at in great condition and at price points in the $6,000 to $8,000 range.

If it comes with a tritium dial, it will indeed be the best of both worlds! But atm, a tritium dial appeals to me alot as its something that u can never get from the new watches.

I'm not sure what you're referring to....perhaps a better picture would clarify your concern.

Oh what I meant is on the case lug itself, the chamfered edges are gone ie the watch is polished. Do u think the watch is over polished?

If you think watches without chamfers automatically means it's overpolished....you are grossly misguided. First off, there are plenty of great cases that's been polished that has lost the original chamfers from Rolex that are far from overpolished.....you also have certain years where there aren't prevalent chamfers versus earlier years where the chamfers are more prevalent in Rolex manufacturing....lastly, there are places now that can restore/recut the chamfers on any piece you present to them to Rolex specifications with a lathe...so chamfers isn't always a glaring tell of if a piece is overpolished or not. You have to look at a lot of examples and get an idea of how thick lugs are from an unpolished examples from similar time periods and compare with pieces you're interested in....usually the keys are lug width/thickness, how flat the polished sides are on the case, how crater'ish/uneven the lugholes are (if there are any), and how sharp the crown guards are.
