I'm amazed at the price rise of the 16710 over the last year. I sold a 16710 last year to fund a 16750 gloss dial. Since then the 16710 has risen about $1.5k while the 16750 has risen about $750 making them close in value now. I think the 16750 should be worth a lot more. It's a vintage with plexy crystal and open 6's and 9's which I think makes it a lot more desirable, but the market says otherwise.

My 16700 has open 6's and 9's too, as far as I can remember some 16710 came with such date disks also.

Nice! But sapphire crystal if I recall correctly?

The vintage date wheel with the open 6 and 9 was used until the 1992/93 timeframe.

^^ it's a 88 model so that makes sense. Original black bezel insert is in a drawer.

I am not sure what is going on either. One of my friends in OC who deals in used Rolex'es has told me that he's received a lot of inquiries for five digit GMT Master II watches, which has caused units in decent shape to push well beyond 7K. You can get an equal condition Explorer II, which is basically the same watch except the bezel and dial, for about two thousand less.

What is weird is that the situation for five-digit Submariners was very similarly seeing bubbles about a year ago, but then they dropped, and now are going for around 5700 on average. It's like the five digit Submariners and GMT Master IIs switched positions in the bubble.

ive seen absurd prices like $15k, for "mint" (its not) and its one example.
Are you sure they were not one of those rolex fetishist dial misprints. I think the GMT II has "stick dials" and that's probably not the only one.

Here is a good one currently for sale. Full set with the transitional SWISS dial with luminova instead of super luminova. Decent price too right now.

might have to keep an eye on that. interestingly my first rolex was from ebay and ended up having to return it. it was a black dial 16570, decent price shame it was an after market dial

eBay can be really good and extremely bad, but it still is the single largest place to find watches online. I don't have any connection to the seller, it just looked like a good combination of full set and price under $7k, which is hard to find right now. Guess that's why it has a lot of interest.

it does look ok to me, and id consider making an offer as it is a decently complete set. i can abide by the the non sel too. having been burned once, trying to buy rolex on ebay, I usually avoid. Have tried omega and JLC on ebay tho.

I don't believe in bubbles when you can move the things... of the market in your country do not buy your watch there is always another place that will do...

What amazes me is the premiums people pay for stick dial GMT Master II's. I'd be hard pressed to find a smaller distinction than the "II" on the dial, yet folks willingly pay thousands more. It's been suggested that many of these stick dials represent factory replacement dials, meaning the watch is not 100% original. Add that to the list of a million things I just don't understand about people.

that goes across the board for me, little red paint on the dial? two lines of red paint?! ft first over meters?! omg!!! talk about some serious fan boys. was still surprised to see what people are willing to shell out for a blueberry

Lucky I just got a set of 16710 Coke last year for around 5.8k with box and paper. Price for those hit beyond 7k mark at the moment and IMHO those 5 digits is much better proportion compared to those blingy ceramic 6 digits.

I have seen a couple of 16700/ 16710s in dealers for around 拢4500/拢5000 tops recently & when I inquired most had box & papers too . I think the bubble may exist on watch forums, but most dealers in the wild are happy to negotiate a little on the price .

amen, my cousin has the newer 116710 LN and having tried that on, along with the BLNR at places like tourneau and at rolex itself, I just dont like the 6 digit lines. the maxi case and maxi dial is not for me. there is something so classic about the 5 digits, they were the rolexes I was accustomed to seeing growing up
