I wasn't looking for someone else to make my decision for me. I was just curious to know if other folks were on the fence like me. Ultimately, I'll go and see it in person (if I actually get an allotment) and then decide.

That being said, if everyone had responded with a "no way" then I'd probably pass on it as well. It's not an insignificant amount of money, so just trying to gauge interest.
But that does mean you are looking for someone else to make the decision for you, at least in that one scenario, otherwise why would you care if everyone had responded "no way". Fair enough if you're just curious to know what others think about it because that always makes for a lively (if pointless) debate. My point was that the only thing that would matter to me in a purchasing decision is what I thought about it - screw everyone else! 馃槈

Don't think there is any effort to try to make an artificial shortage so people can flip them. . There are two opinions flowing, 1 the edition will sell out quickly due to the significance of the event and the actual appearance of the watch and 2 the watch is over produced, unattractive and will languish for a year or more in dealer showcases, even going at discounted prices.

You are in the second group, and that's fine.

What I can't understand is why people are actively hoping that this watch will be a massive fail. (Not you, but others)

Totally agree. IMO this watch could have an actual ass on the 9 dial and still sell out quickly - it doesnt matter - it's the 50th anniv no matter what it looks like - collectors are going to have it in their collection and time has shown us that the weirder..the better long term

I highly doubt you鈥檒l get the chance to see it in person unless you are guaranteed one at this point

I've had a deposit down on one since November, I'll definitely be seeing it in person unless I ultimately decide it's not worth a 2-hour drive

Indeed, back in 1955 Patek Philippe introduced some very avant garde watches by the designer Gilbert Albert. They bombed, they couldn't give them away and they languished for years in dealer stocks (info directly from an old time Swiss AD ca 1985). Try to find one now at any price. Another example, the Cartier Crash introduced in 1967. Considered goofy and extreme at the time, they became a hit, and Cartier has reintroduced the model. Bottom line.....you never know how things will age.

The Apollo 11 50th will become a must have and a mainstay in many future collections, or just as a one off watch kept in the family and passed down to sons/daughters as a token of a great scientific achievement long ago (even though there are still those who believe it was all a hoax).

It is interesting that people think the watch is too expensive. The cheapest CeraGold Speedmaster is the Apollo XVII 45th anniversary series for USD6,500. The Apollo XI 50th anniversary is USD9650. The difference between the two is the significance of the Apollo XI mission, Moonshine Gold & CeraGold, and Omega Master Chronometer. I guess many cannot justify the USD3,150 difference, but when comparing the two watches, there really is no comparison. I don't think this anniversary watch will ever dip to the USD6,500 price point. But, I am not buying it to flip it...this one is a keeper (for me)!

Let鈥檚 face it Omega is out to make money, and this is a money watch. Box and bracelet seems to be what everyone loves about it. I think the sub dial kills it. Bad choice of picture and can鈥檛 see myself wearing a commemorative watch as an everyday watch. It鈥檚 not the price so much as the tackiness of that sub dial

I am actually in it for the actual watch. I think the two-tone is very tastefully done, and depending on the light, it doesn't even appear TT. Believe it or not, there are many people who actually like the watch. It won't be my every day watch...I have my SMP for that. The dial my be tacky to you, but I actually like it! 馃榾

Hi All,

Brand new to this forum and never had a Omega watch before (never had a watch more than 拢 1000)
Short story- I have wanted a Moon watch for a few years and decided to take the plunge. Went to the Omega Boutique in Manchester on Friday to try one on and see how it looked in the flesh. I had heard about the 50th Anv. Moonwatch but when I was doing my research on the web again last Thursday night the Omega site did not show anything.
At the boutique I was told about the new watch and shown photos from the website which where only added that morning.
Was not 100% convinced but after a bit of pondering I thought fook it and said i would have one.
Massive outlay for a watch and hey, you only live once.

1) Had to give a 20% deposit, they confirmed the day after I would defo get one as they were not sure at the time.
2) Said they could not discount a LE by a single 拢, is this true? Can I haggle when the watch turns up?
3) If no discount is given, what can I push for as a gift? Maybe a black leather strap, or is this cheeky, any ideas? Cannot buy something for 拢 7K and get nothing free 馃榾
3) They told me it will arrive late July/early August, is this BS (read it will be end of year on here)
4) How many units are coming into the UK?
5) What is the NIAID back mean, cant find an explanation?

Cheers Jason. (Cant wait for the watch to arrive and I will wear it as a daily)

Great news! Well done and this will be a brilliant first Omega for you. I'm down the road in Cheshire and hoping to get one of these (from a smaller Omega AD).

In response to your questions:

1. No one else I've heard about in the UK has had to put a deposit down to secure this watch. I hope they are true to their word re. the allocation for you but I don't think any Omega AD knows yet how many watches they are getting. Did they say which number you were on their list?
2. I would not expect a discount nor did I ask for one. I would suggest not haggling when the watch turns up (if it does).
3. Asking for gifts is a bit of a no no for me too. A gift is a gift isn't it?
3. No ones knows the answer to this yet. I would suspect a bit later than July but hopefully this year.
4. Not sure - I've not seen a figure.
5. Not sure.

2) That is the accepted norm.
If it has been sitting in a dealer for over 12 months then there's no barrier to having a go.
3) Sounds a bit cheeky, but perhaps they may throw in a cap or a catalogue or something?
You are after all potentially getting a/the limited edition watch without having any prior relationship which is usually a pre-requisite.
3B) Forget a lot of what you see or read on the internet.
My Boutique has declared a late July delivery. I tend to have faith in them.
4) Nobody knows how many are going anywhere except that it seems as though around 10% are allocated for the US market.
This is understandable as they occupy around 10% of the global market and, after all they did all the heavy lifting throughout the entire space program and all the lead up to it.
5) Niad lock is a term given to the system they use to ensure the alignment of the text on the case back are consistently orientated to a certain point for visual purposes only.
It adds nothing to the watertight or structural integrity.

The fact they took a deposit is interesting because under British law they have now entered a contract to supply the watch. This is why deposits are not usually taken in the UK on speculative items where there is a good chance they won鈥檛 be able to provide the item. The dealer is clearly confident of their allocation. You could actually sue for any damages now if they are unable to supply you, though there is of course a chance you won鈥檛 win! There are similar issues with Porsche dealers failing to provide some sought after models when they have taken deposits.

Re haggling. I don't think dropping a few unsubtle hints that you鈥檇 like some freebees when paying would be outrageous, but trying to haggle when paying may well result in you being shown the door and the next guy on the list getting a call.

I have been invited to an event showing the new watches next month. As it stands I am not inclined to buy any of the new releases but welcome the chance to see them in person.

I'll wager they would be able to supply the watch before proceedings are filed in court.

Judging by recent chats with my local dealer, the Boutiques at least already have a pretty good idea of their allocation, the acceptance of a deposit at another reinforced this suspicion.

Re discount this is correct they don鈥檛 discount

Thanks for all the great advise and responses. I paid DD for the 20% deposit and got a receipt/invoice showing this and the balance due when I collect the watch. I asked if I could have watch number 1970 as that鈥檚 my DOB but apparently you can鈥檛 ask for a specific number and get what your given. I was quite excited when I was in there so my mind went blank and could not remember any questions to ask lol. Now I have a few questions I may ring him as he was sound as a pound.

Cheers all.

I was confirmed for one by my AD, but I've decided against it. There are two other LEs that I am actively looking at. The 9650 would go a long way towards getting them. 馃榾

Doubt any of us will be!
I'll certainly make a run for it!! 馃榿
Who knows? By that time, doctors may be able to swap parts for robotic ones and pharma companies may have found cures for severe illnesses. 馃槈

I second this. My AD here in Miami was told by Omega that they will be getting 4 pieces.

For those folks who live in countries where no deposit was required to get on a waiting list I would be following up with the AD or OB to see if you need to put money down now to keep your reservation.

Walked into the OB in Dubai on Saturday and they happily said they would be receiving first batch in July/Aug and would i like one and took my details...no deposit required.
I guess time will tell as to whether i get a call back but I know them pretty well.
