Just curious of the folks that have deposits on the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Speedmaster, now that you've had some time to mull over the photos, will you be getting the watch or asking for your deposit back? I have a full deposit on one and am really on the fence. I like the watch, but am not in love with it (mainly the 9 o'clock subdial). I already have a Moonwatch and could use this money to buy some cool used LE. Thoughts? Thanks!
Nay for me. But I’m actually still buying one for a friend since it’s more convenient for me to do it than him.
Yay for me, never a doubt. Not swayed at all by the resident naysayers who were mostly predisposed to say no regardless of what it looked like for one of three main reasons: 1. Use of yellow gold which was an inexcusable faux pas 2. Did not use the raised-from-the-dead 321, or even the current 1861, movement 3. Price Wrisr shots of the watch are few and far between. Hodinkee has a wrist shot that captures the watch pretty well. In my eye it's a handsome watch with many features I like.....the grey/black dial, the '11', the new bracelet, well executed NIAID caseback, discrete use of gold, ceramic tachymeter, crown/pushers. I freely admit the image at '9' was not necessary and it would have been much cleaner if they would have left it off. Too bad they used the UV Ultraman gimmick previously because this would have been a good watch to hide that image and then make it appear, maybe by using a light in LEM display base. But Buzz at 9 is not a deal breaker for me. If the watch didn't have the subdial image I'd rate it at 98 points, I'll deduct 5 for Buzz which makes it a solid 93 point watch. No watch is perfect but this one is very, very nice, it makes the grade by my criteria. I'm in and will add it to the collection and be happy to wear it in rotation. Have no concerns about its value going forward.....don't care, that's not why I buy any watch. Everyone will have to make their own decision, but I would not let the negativity overly sway your decision, it always comes down to what YOU think about the watch and not what other people think.
You prefer more threads like, "How often can (should) I wind my Speedy Pro" or "Which arm should you wear a watch"? The 50th watch is a big deal, let the various threads rip. If there is no interest they will die quickly and sink off the page.
I want to create a new thread to about "Do you intend to put a flea in your Speedy Apollo 11 50th and use it as a Cookmaster?". Can I? Joke aside, and newbie question: no "poll" option? (no deposit for me, price is way above of what I want to put in a watch, but given @Evitzee picture, it would have been a yay)
Omega keeps the deposit. I’m all in. I think it looks great and is the most relevent commemorative anniversary until 100 years.
I'm in. At some angles, like the photo above, you can barely tell it is TT. It's tastefully done IMO.
I never said that. However ‘how far must I shove the watch up his bollocks to get him to stop blabbing’ would be most appropriate Carry on. Edit : for the OP : ‘nay’.
Last time I checked this is an Omega enthusiast forum and arguably one of the most anticipated commemorative Speedmasters to date was literally just released. Your gripe is like complaining about a football/soccer forum spending too much time on a World Cup final that just happened.
I agree with you and the only reason why i'm not gonna buy it it's because i don't have 10.5 k to leave at the dealer ...... So i'm afraid that i will have to wait used one or hoping that one will be left forgotten in one dealer around the world
