For those with Apollo 11 50th Speedy deposits: Yay or Nay?

I'm in.
I'm not too crazy about the 9 o'clock subdial, but that is something I can overlook as the rest of the watch makes up for it. The fact that it is a 50th anniversary commemorative piece for a historical event makes it special as well.
My 18 year old son who just started taking an interest in watches likes it as well and said I should get it. So the day I pass it down to him, I know he will be happy to have it.

With 7k units, and such a polarizing design, I don't see a shortage looming, really....
It's so called 'polarizing' design is mostly from those who had already made up their minds that they weren't going to like it. To most people, and eventual buyers, it's design is not very polarizing.

Where do people make deposits? Is this via Omega Boutiques or the HQ?

No deposits in Aus or UK (as far as I know).
For those folks who live in countries where no deposit was required to get on a waiting list I would be following up with the AD or OB to see if you need to put money down now to keep your reservation.

I think its design (15,000 GAUSS rated) means it should be immune to polarizing :0)

I don’t think Omega is going to fulfill 7000 units all together and at the same time. There might be gaps between deliveries so you might see one once they deliver all the ones in waiting lists.

That would assume that all those shipped would go to WL'ed folks, which I don't think will be the case. There will be OB's/AD's that will receive some without having a WL, if only because the WL doesn't seem to be an official Omega process.

Net, yes, they will obviously be more scarce at the beginning... But I'm not worried about being able to see one in the flesh that has not been reserved, just not in the first few weeks maybe 😀

Not yet, if only because it hasn't been released... but in a few weeks, yes, sure. As I'm on my way to #SpeedyTuesday Milan, who knows, with a bit of luck, I might even be able to try it on tomorrow, for all I know 😉

Is it me or is this thread is an not-so-disguised effort to make people believe there will be a shortage of watches so those who get them first as they placed a deposit can flip them in the best way (for them)? I am NOT commenting on the intrinsics of the watch, but regardless of whether I like the design or not, all I'm saying is that with 7K pieces, chances are everyone who wants one should be able to get one. Which, frankly, is great from Omega esp. after the ST1 and ST2 sales dynamics which left some frustration in the system 👍

Omega keeps the deposit. I’m all in. I think it looks great and is the most relevent commemorative anniversary until 100 years.
I agree. I won't be around for the 100th.

Not for me. It is so overcharged. I will wait for a couple more years for regular speedy with updated movement either 3186 or 321. Price should be more reasonable around 6-7k.

OK, this is getting ridiculous. Why is everyone so obsessed with what people besides themselves think about this watch? Just like every other watch ever, if you like it get it, if you don’t like it don’t get it. Guess how many other people besides myself I care whether or not they like the watches I own...zero!

I wasn't looking for someone else to make my decision for me. I was just curious to know if other folks were on the fence like me. Ultimately, I'll go and see it in person (if I actually get an allotment) and then decide.

That being said, if everyone had responded with a "no way" then I'd probably pass on it as well. It's not an insignificant amount of money, so just trying to gauge interest.

It is interesting that people think the watch is too expensive. The cheapest CeraGold Speedmaster is the Apollo XVII 45th anniversary series for USD6,500. The Apollo XI 50th anniversary is USD9650. The difference between the two is the significance of the Apollo XI mission, Moonshine Gold & CeraGold, and Omega Master Chronometer. I guess many cannot justify the USD3,150 difference, but when comparing the two watches, there really is no comparison. I don't think this anniversary watch will ever dip to the USD6,500 price point. But, I am not buying it to flip it...this one is a keeper (for me)!

Don't think there is any effort to try to make an artificial shortage so people can flip them. . There are two opinions flowing, 1 the edition will sell out quickly due to the significance of the event and the actual appearance of the watch and 2 the watch is over produced, unattractive and will languish for a year or more in dealer showcases, even going at discounted prices.

You are in the second group, and that's fine.

What I can't understand is why people are actively hoping that this watch will be a massive fail. (Not you, but others)

@Evitzee I think the second group has an utter frustration on the amount of LE's that Omega has produced, leading to the belief that oversaturation of LE models will lead to too much supply and not enough demand. I do like the fact that Omega produced a relatively large number for the 50th LE. It has given non-watch collector people an opportunity to purchase a fantastic watch!

I have been thinking the same. I can understand that some people don’t like the watch and they are not going to buy it. But in reality this is something that we have never seen, yes, there have been previous LE’s but not as awaited for as this one. So at this point any type off speculation about how is going to do is just a guess. I like the watch and I am buying one regardless of what it’s value might be in six months, one year or 20 years. If you like it buy it, if you don’t like it don’t buy it.
