Looking to keep it on a strap, but looking for a good aftermarket one. Settling on Hirsch strap, either black or dark brown with omega deployant clasp. Can’t decide between the colors, and also if to get smooth leather or an alligator strap. Thinking either black smooth or black alligator?

The Hirsch Voyager straps are very close to Omega straps and will fit on the deployant clasp. They are only in 20mm widths, but can be put on the FOIS. I’ve done it. If you want an exact 19mm width, you’ll have to get the Hirsch Speed strap (designed as an aftermarket TAG Heuer strap) but it has a more extreme taper and more limited leather choices.

Compared to an Omega strap, the Hirsch are very, very close in quality, which is reflected in the price — $125 or so. I got my Omega strap (new) from the sales forum here for about $50 more, so you might be on the lookout for one there. I found the Hirsch strap takes a little longer to mold to the wrist (the Omega strap is more supple immediately).

For color and material, I think any of the combos you listed will look good. I went with a vintage brown calfskin that came closest to the strap that came on it — I think that’s a particularly nice combo for the watch. Here’s a quick wrist shot.

My FOIS just arrived. Been lusting after it for years. A year ago picked up the 60th anniversary edition speedy, which I love. Then now just decided to pull the trigger on an FOIS too. Different look and watch to an extent. They feel like two very distinct watches. Should post a side by side pic?
Mine is 1062x, so really cool as the flight was October 3rd 1962. The serial # also starts with my birth year. So definitely a keeper (I have other watches that ended up having my birth year, etc. in them. And all are loved and appreciated. Nice to keep the trend going.)

jJust put mine on a padded leather strap from deBeers. Loving it.

Omega's strategy to make the Apollo 11's 6969 production look like an actual limited edition.

Still debating on the straps and colors. Should I get the alligator strap in black and leather strap in dark brown, or alligator in dark brown and leather strap in black. Looking to wear this as a sports watch, as I have dress watches already.

If you are willing to buy two straps, I think a black alligator looks dressier and the brown calf more sporty. I think those would cover all your bases on the FOIS.

Got two straps. Picked a crocodile strap that hopefully will go well with both the FOIS and 60th.
Straps are here, Omega deployant on its way.

Nice combo! Have you tried putting the Trilogy bracelet on the FOIS?

My Jean Rousseau strap arrived last weekend. I had them make it identical to the standard FOIS strap, but in all black, which I prefer. It took about 5 weeks order to delivery. I am waiting to put it on my FOIS after my OB tries to fit a Trilogy bracelet on it next month. Not sure if it will fit yet since the FOIS has 1mm shorter lug to lug size (47mm) than the Trilogy at 48.

I opted for the butterfly deployant from JR on my strap as seen in the photo.

Haven’t tried, as I feel that FOIS would look best on a black leather strap or on gator/crocodile strap in dark brown. It’s just has a bit of a dressier feel to the watch and in my opinion goes best with leather straps.
In terms of the 60th, it has a great bracelet with adjustable clasp which is very useful. Only nit pick is the clasp is kind of thick.

Trilogy endlinks, sea, speed or railmaster, do not fit the FOIS nor the CK2998s.

Congrats. Having a cool or meaningful number makes the ownership so much more special. My FOIS has number 1062x and the flight was in October 1962, so real cool. All of my mechanical watches also have my birth year in them (4 watch streak).

I love this watch, number is in the low 2000’s, I think they look great on a dark brown vintage strap...

I’m very interested in some of the customisation of these models, as I bought this watch from the proceeds of selling my 2998-1, which regrettably had to go to. This watch was bought to remind me of the 2998-1...

I see from this forum’s posts that it shouldn’t be too difficult to get the additional sub dial leaf hands, hesalite for sapphire swop, and I also remember a post concerning a suitable bracelet via an OB.....

Do any of the recent 1000 bezel inserts fit?

A service 2998 case back, ?

Would love to see what’s possible.......and knowing that over 12000 of these are rocking peoples wrists , I see no reason not to do it.....

Here’s a pic of the watch on my wrist today, the watch next to the 2998-1, and the 2998-1 on its own....

4518 checking in.

Changed the bezel, have some other mods planned. All parts going into the box so can be put back to FOIS at some point.

Checking in with a controversial one!

Number 880. This was bought and stored unworn and the original owner decided to have the watch DLC coated, and then stored it unworn again!

When it came to me I loved it but thought the original leather strap looked a bit too refined and also a bit too thin on my 7.5” wrists.
I now have it on a NATO and absolutely love it. It’s much more off duty- which is what I wanted the watch for. It also is much more balanced on my thicker wrist with the NATO adding a bit of bulk.
I want to get a really nice aged leather nato too, so would like to know where you guys would point me for one with black hardware to match the watch. Maybe also something Kevlar to go full Darkside!

So guys, what do you think of my First Omega in the Darkside of Space?
I know so many of you will hate this but I love it! 😝
