Hi everyone. My first post here. I just picked this up blind 4 days ago. I tried the pro but my AD didn't have the fois in stock and I knew I wanted a slightly smaller fit
. So I called and ordered it in from a nearby city without trying it on. I did my research and I'm glad I went with my decision. Initial thoughts--- I do agree that the hands aren't the easiest to see in all lighting but it's a challenge I'm ready for. The strap--I'm happy with the color but I'm a little surprised at how "dainty" it is. It thins out to I believe 16mm at the buckle and it seems very thin or ladylike to me. I'd like to hear your opinions. Other than that, I'm glad to finally be a part of the Speedy club!
BTW, for those of you wondering, my numbered edition is very close to 11,000.
Congrats on the FOIS. I think you have to buy into the aesthetics of the hands. As long as you enjoy the look it’s easy to accept they are sometimes less legible. As for straps i went for a Heuerville for the vintage racing look. Think it only tapers to 18mm.

So I’ve owned my brand new FOIS for approx a week now and I’ve noticed a clicking sound at the lug/spring bar when I pressure the strap back and forth. Is this something to be concerned with? Does it warrant sending it to my dealer to take a look?

I had the same on mine but it went away after regular wearing. Do you still have that issue?

With Season's greetings from Hong Kong. #8762 checking in. Bought in Luxembourg two weeks ago. Plan to have a couple of weeks of wrist time with stock leather strap, after which it will be a JB Champion Mesh bracelet with horn or straight end links

New user to the forums but have been lurking, I own a 70s DeVille and now have my first pricey watch, given to me as a wedding gift--the FOIS!

Since I have smallish wrists, I found the size to be perfect. I thought I'd hate the Sapphire, but I actually like how the glass sits a little lower than hesalite. Have a mesh JB Champion (not the $$$ OG one) on the way.

I had some questions though. An Omega store told me that they stopped production of the watch sometime in mid-2018, in part because other watches coming out in 2019--can anyone verify that? My serial is 88XX so it's not the latest.

Also I wanted to swap the caseback for something thinner, and was considering an 861 caliber back that I can get for cheap--does that fit as a straight swap without needing a movement spacer? Compared to the regular moonwatch the FOIS caseback seems bulky, and I'd also just want a different option, which would allow me to preserve the condition of the original caseback as a plus.

Checking in my first Speedmaster, FOIS 84XX. I feel lucky that this is still being made and was available @ my local AD for pick up! The dial is a stunner and even more impressive is the caseback. All-in-all just a gorgeous looking watch and it wears perfectly on my 6.5 inch wrist. Sharing a picture I took with the 'Moonwatch Only' book.

I can confirm these are into the 11,000’s now (just). Picked this up on Friday. Is my second one. I wanted to re-add a chrono and had various options but none fit me as well as this (Tudor, longines etc). The speedy pro was just too big on my wrist and this seems to just nestle on my wrist correctly. I did look at the pulsometer, but I found it too bright for my taste and not really me. The FOIS gets the balance right in my view and looks as good on straps as it does on nato and bracelet.

I have it on the speedy racing bracelet (1565/976) and like it. I know some prefer the more vintage looking bracelet but for me this works. I also love the stock strap but will be adding a grey suede racing one this week.

Sorry about reviving an old thread. Stumbled upon this while searching to see how high the "numbered" editions went. Here's 91XX.

I can't believe they're reaching around 11,000 now for the numbered editions! I remember a year or so ago there was the rumor floating around that they were stopping production and I think that was around 8,000?

The OB I visited at the end of last year said these recently stopped production--I wonder if this is true or not? Curious if we'll see a 12,000 serial range emerge.

Reminds me of the old joke (I think it was Seinfeld) where the salesman was saying it's a limited edition. It's limited to the amount we can sell.

I wonder what Omega's expectations were for this watch as it seems to perform strongly with around 11,000 now extant? When I picked mine up in late 2016 the OB wasn't expecting to receive any more from Bienne and the edition number was just below the 6,000 mark. Other posts periodically mention that the OBs/ADs say it is soon to be taken out of production but they still keep turning up. Perhaps the popularity has surprised Omega...

My FOIS just arrived. Been lusting after it for years. A year ago picked up the 60th anniversary edition speedy, which I love. Then now just decided to pull the trigger on an FOIS too. Different look and watch to an extent. They feel like two very distinct watches. Should post a side by side pic?
Mine is 1062x, so really cool as the flight was October 3rd 1962. The serial # also starts with my birth year. So definitely a keeper (I have other watches that ended up having my birth year, etc. in them. And all are loved and appreciated. Nice to keep the trend going.)
Looking to keep it on a strap, but looking for a good aftermarket one. Settling on Hirsch strap, either black or dark brown with omega deployant clasp. Can’t decide between the colors, and also if to get smooth leather or an alligator strap. Thinking either black smooth or black alligator?
