Not all Italian are the same , I took an habitude when I pay with wire , whatever the country I buy, is to get a Picture of the Guy it self with the passport open at the picture page, the watch and a newspaper of the day all in the same picture this permit to get a complete view of the seller, now paying by wire of course is a risk but moderated at least depending of the sum, now I have specially travelled just to grab a watch when the sum is high or feel a doubt , but is rare really rare , my last transaction was a perfect Bullhead in Ontario , paid by wire, and shipped by Canadian post. All went perfectly , of course if something goes wrong , take a plane to Toronto 450โ‚ฌ and start to chase the guy still not a lot of money and quicky result.

I have been very lucky. I bought a watch from a man in Italy and everything went very well even though alarm bells started ringing when he messaged me that he could not send the watch as he had to re-package it and then he couldn't get to post it until the next week.

It all ended well and I received the watch along with a little letter in bad English apologising for the delay. Needless to say he got excellent feedback from me.

I've bought watches from all over the planet and the only time I got stiffed was from some Australian arsehole who sold me a fake and then denied it was a fake and said I just didn't want it. I was a bit new to eBay at the time and took the loss on the chin, but next time I'm in Perth I may look him up.

I'm Italian and I also did some great deals with other gentlemen in my country.

Unfortunately scams are everywhere.

Ps. The bad English part is hilarious,in fact 70% of my friends can only say "the cat is on the table" in English ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Iโ€™ve had quite a few flaky sellers try to rip me off, but Paypal has always come good with refunding so I never lost out.

It can be a different story as a seller though. I sold some expensive vintage cutlery to a US buyer a couple of years ago, and somehow it took around 8 weeks to clear customs and arrive. Even though there was a tracking number so everyone could see it had been promptly dispatched, the time interval was long enough for the buyer to open a case and win based on none delivery. When it finally arrived the seller told me they didnโ€™t need it anymore as they had bought the same elsewhere (clearly BS), and they completed ignored my requests to return it or organize collection with a courier. Paypal said I should politely keep asking, but told me they couldnโ€™t do anything if the seller refused to return. When I told the buyer I was going to register an online fraud complaint with the local police they blew their top and said I was threatening them. All very stressful and in the end I gave up for the sake of around 400USD.

The surprising thing was they were traceable online and were a married couple of doctors who you might expect to behave fairly. Long distances and email communication can obviously bring out the worst in people ๐Ÿ™
