Fake Datejust = tricky situation

An acquaintance has asked my opinion of this watch.

Whilst I know virtually nothing about Rolex, I think it is a total fake!

The buckle is totally crude and shows a poor rendition of gold hallmarks for a start!

Your opinions would be appreciated.

My uncle has one just like it.

Does that answer your question?

In other words, fake from stem to stern. 馃檨

Wait, why would an all ss Rolex have gold hallmarks?

For the same reason an all out bogus Rolex would have ROLEX on the dial! Fraud! And why would you have called it Rolex in your post? A gold plated turd is still a turd!

Fakesters should start reading up, so they don't put 18K gold Swiss export hallmarks on a stainles steel bracelet.

It actually has got 18K stamped at the other end of the buckle. And GENEVE, ( a relatively unknown part of Switzerland just outside Bejing.)
It really is not good enough, I would expect more effort to at least be logical.

Its tricky because the owner was left it by her late husband and is hoping the sale will get her enough for some necessary house repairs.
I'll have to tell her it would not buy her a tin of paint. Hence tricky!

Anyway I resent the foul slur with regards to Ms Anderson's mammary attractions. She was a film actress, and surely Hollywood would never liar or cheat .

Worthless without pics.

Certainly not a pointless image. She must have a strong back.

You're assuming she does a lot of standing up? (I'll let myself out :whipped: )

I fail to see how this is at all tricky...
Tell her it's a fake.
Most people seem to assume real Rolexes are fake anyway...
How does a husband leave a watch to his wife, and she not know its fake?
He would be the kid of guy to secretly spend thousands of the family dollars ?(clearly a family that doesn't have disposable income given the need to sell it for housing repair money)...
At least you could point out all of the ways that this is fake... And there are many - A presidential band on a datejust... The terrible cyclops magnification... The position of the crown on the side of the case suggesting an ETA movement... The sloppy finish... The weight ( I'm sure it doesn't feel like gold) and the presidential bracelet was only offered in precious metals (hence the faux markings) - the alternative is to let her try and sell it?
This whole thread makes no sense...

Tricky situation? How is it tricky? She needs to know the truth, painful as it might be. It must be awful to be so desperate. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride!

My aren't you a judgemental clever chappie!
She's a poor old gal that needs some work done on her house and hoped the husbands old watch may have been worth a few quid!
Maybe someone told her it was worth loads?
Where he got it, or if he knew it was a total fake and never pretended otherwise - I've no idea.

Making smart ass comment without knowing the facts. That makes no sense.

Allow me to quote Stephen Fry here...
鈥淚t's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so f蠀cking what."

How much more of the story would I possibly need to hear in order to change my opinion?

I think you came on here to try and get a sense about a fake Rolex that you have. getting unapologetically told it was fake may have forced you to retro-fix a widow into the story and edit your post.

I would prefer to believe this rather than the possibility that you are truly in a quandary about someone bringing you a fake and you not knowing how to break the news.

Lets assume that there is a widow who found this old watch in her husbands drawer, he didn't ever wear it, and maybe she thinks she has an old heirloom, or garage sale treasure... she brings it to you...

Your possible responses : #1. Yes that's a genuine Rolex, those housing repairs are as good as paid for!
#2. Sorry, that's a fake, here are the valid reasons for my conclusion.
#3. Why don't you take it to a jeweler or authorized Rolex dealer and have it looked at.
#4. Let me post crappy photos on a forum about Omega watches and see what they say!

You can look all around you for people to blame... its not going to change things...

I'm sorry that you're offended, but that's not an accomplishment.

Things happen for a reason, sometimes, that reason is that you're stupid, and make bad decisions.
