Very good value with high quality movement and good finishing. I recently picket up this clean example from 1961 on eBay for less than $200 usd including an interesting mesh bracelet. Not crazy about the hidden crown, but the condition just grabbed me.

My other Eterna-matics also exceeded my expectations. Just a really under-valued brand IMO.

Kontiki 20

and Super Kontiki.

I have one more Eterna that I really love, but it's a hand-winder. ;-)

Love contrasting dial!
Thanks! Honestly, I get more compliments wearing this than my sub, could be there are a lot of fake rolexes around LOL

I just paid $147 including shipping from Britain for this 1969 Eterna-Matic 1000. I decided it looked a lot better on my Granddad's old silver bracelet then the Seiko 5 i had on it.

Eterna was not a minor brand in its day. They were the first company to manufacture automatic rotors using 5-ball bearings to reduce friction. That's where the logo come from. They also made some of the thinnest automatic movements in the 1950's and '60's, when that was a really big deal.

The company was purchased by the forerunner to Swatch, and became the basis for the movement producer, ETA. Omega used ETA based movements up until very recently. Longines and Hamilton still do.

Several members here have Eternas, including yours truly!

Just read through all the posts & haven't seen any kontiki 10s posted . I picked it up from a local bric a brac shop about a year ago , took it home & put it in a drawer until a couple of days ago. The crystal was scratched so I've given it the once over with polywatch , it has the 5 dots on the crystal so I think it must be original. Does anyone know any more about the 10s as there seems little info about on them.

The KonTiki is an ongoing available model from Eterna, but special models are released on each 10 year anniversary (10, 20, 30, and so on...). I do not know if they have any other modifications. I have seen several 20s and 30s; first time seeing a 10, and in fair shape too!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the 10 and 20 models of the Kontikis were anniversary models.

Military Issued to the IDF
That IDF issued watch is excellent, thanks for posting. Do you know if these were assigned to the Shayetet 13 unit?

It's real and has a rare dial and hand setup compared to other models. There is a IDF issued one in a book I have and looks like yours but has orange accents on the dial and the sweep hand was orange and said it was a special order for the IDF but even books can be wrong yours does not have that so maybe for the civilian market . I had a older one with the more common dial it had a none screw down crown original to the watch but had the Eterna dot symbol on the crown don't see that symbol on that one wondering if it's a replacement ?
