I am really fond of my Eterna-Matic 1000, my only gold (-filled) watch. A really good watch with a great style, and with the Birks signature and Canada Life Assurance Company inscription on the back, it's as Canadian as the day is long.

Definitely not the most refined Eterna as there are Chronometer grade 2002's but this dial variation is absolutely stunning. There is one for sale, near me, and I have to constrain myself every time I walk near that watchmaker's shop from getting it because I'm saving
up for an Omega. Not my pic.

I recently acquired an outstanding Eterna calibre 1466 U, 21jewel movement from a scrapper. It had been in an 18 karat gold case which weighed 17.5 grams without the movement. I could have had the watch for $750.00 (Cdn.), but with a less than perfect dial, and the fact that Eterna is not my cup of tea, I let the watch go. But I was able to acquire the movement after the case went to the melt. 😬

Not much use, I know, but one day, maybe I can find a suitable case for it. Who knows?

I could but I'm set on getting an Omega in my collection.

The time to buy is when you see it.
My only regrets are the ones I didn't buy 😉

Eterna is more bang for your buck than Omega.
Your comment made me change my mind and now I'm considering that Eterna! I know about Eterna's heritage and all but I guess being enamored with Omega took my mind away. Thank you very much for the advice!

Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me. That is by far the most important virtue of the watch collector. That and knowledge, of course.

You're welcome. I started out enamored with Omega but I've wound up with one Omega that I've kept and four Eternas.

All beauties!
Anyone else notice that Nice Kontiki's have evaporated
from eBay? Not sure if it's the pandemic or prices
being down, or just no good ones left for sale?

If you buy a good KonTiki you will notice they are not easy to let go again!

Have wanted a Kontiki on GF bracelet for a a while- actually one of my saved searches on the bay. About a year ago 1 in 10 were not bad and reasonably priced, but agree, haven’t seen anything worth buying in a while.

The GF is a very nice addition.

I've shown this off before: my father bought this new in approx. 1962, and I always admired it. It's now mine, although I need the crystal replaced (it has a crack). I'd love to add a Centennaire to my collection.
