It took two watchmakers and then a bunch of poking, but this thing runs beautifully now

I agree that Eterna has been an influential watchmaker.

Just going through this thread, I see that my 1969-1970 Omega De Ville takes a lot of cues from the 1950-1960 Eterna 1000.
Also my 1969-1970 Ultra thin Seiko Goldfeather seems to take after the Ultra thin Eterna Centaire

And neither run as well as my 1970 Eterna 3000

That Mitka link was really informative.

I inherited my Eterna from my dad, and I hadn't really heard of it. I'm glad I got lucky trying to repair it myself. I wore it on the day I proposed to my fiancee on Feb 14 this year (see pic 2)

My fiancee gave me an IWC Mark XVIII as an engagement gift a few months ago. I love the look and heritage, but wasn;t sure about the use of the movement based on the Eta- 2892. (see pic 1)

Now that I've learned that the 2892 was based on the Cal-1456, it all the more special to me. Kinds weird that I took pictures of both with the ring.

Just picked up today this vintage Eterna matic in a nice 30-31mm case. Beautiful movement. Can't quite make out caliber. It starts 14xxx. Any help with movement and dating the watch would be appreciated.
Cheers Russell.

What did I just buy? Curious about the year and movement. Sorry for the poor pictures but this is all I have at the moment.

I will also listen to any recommendations for cleaning and service.

I like Hamiltons and Glashutte for their history. Tripped over this watch and after reading a little decided it fit my interests. This is a fun thread. Thanks to all the contributors.

Edit: i think it is close to the 1956 initial issue based on the script, which is larger with more swirls. Once i get hands on it I can check the serial number. Quite a few variations in these, hands, plots etc... i hope it actually has two hands. I think i can see an hour hand near the dial center but nothing further up. I am guessing the black dial was not a big seller although it is what first attracted me to the watch, then the unusual maker (to me.) It will be a fun box to open after it arrives.

EDIT 2: the watch came today. isn't it nice when a watch arrives that is nicer than the pictures? It also has a vintage Omega leather strap, appropriately enough. Off to service next.

Happy dance. ::psy::

Something very beautiful. Congrats, and I think is see the minute hand under there. I hate when sellers don鈥檛 pay attention to that- but they are usually the ones from where the bargain come.

Got my first Eterna recently. A Kontiki with GF bracelet. Love the clean dial design. The bracelet needs to have some links removed, so this shot on a strap will have to do.

No '-Matic' in this 1931 Eterna but surely it's worth a share.
I would love to pick up some of those waterproof chronohraphes for 11$ 馃榿
