Was an interesting auction to watch.

Anyone here claiming responsibility for the final price?

Should clean up nicely. But 14 is a bit more than I'd been anticipating.

Plus the cost of restoring it!

It's ebay, so add your local state tax. Someone paid at least 14.7k.

Guys, just make sure to scuff up your crystals and take bad photos when listing on eBay 😜

Hunting instinct is a basic instinct.

I'm glad I've got my "magical sauce" already.

Where do you see that info? 😕

Sorry, just saw this after I deleted it from my watch list--but while the item is in my list it will show how many other people are watching it also. So--yeah, 217 other people were watching it as of this morning.....

Here's a screenshot from my current watch list showing fly tying stuff and also current 'watchers':

, I think we are here comparing “apples” (I.e., true unrestored, “barn found” watches) and “oranges” (I.e., prepared watches... in the proper sense of the term: relumed hand by an expert, period correct crystal with retention ring, etc.). From what I understand, some collectors prefer the former while other prefer the latter.

And some collectors that hunt the former to convert into the latter. It’s oxymoronic don’t you think? Guilty as charged, over and again.

As of Wednesday morning, 7:56am CST, 217 people. I'd guess more than half of them are "working" from home.
I think working from home is a huge factor here, I wasn't on the market for one, wasn't even working from home- and was able to stumble into this one. I figured I would share this with folks from OF. But I wasn't expecting this much interest quite honest. The watch has that "barn find" glare all over it. I think it will clean up nice though. Good luck to whoever purchased it.

Ridiculous ………

+1 but it’s obvious bidders just bumped up the price without any intention of buying... New? No, don’t think so. Case in point, we gotta stop eating our young here 😀

Two bidders got emotional.

No. It all happened in the last 5 seconds so the bids were premeditated.

I understand that, but I still think those were emotional, "I must win this auction" bids. I like the watch, but not at that price.

Ah that might be the case yes. To be honest I also put in a bid of slightly over 10k so one could say that this type of barn find actually does command an ‘emo-premium’.

That bid makes sense to me.

Do you think perhaps the fact you are currently selling an Ed White on our very own SC has clouded your thinking on this particular issue? Some watches make more than the market, some make less, often its tricky to put your finger on why.

Was this an April Fools?

Can someone remind me in the morning to chuck a couple of EW's in the rumbler for 5 mins ::stirthepot::

People like the idea of finding something pure and untouched, mainly because this is a good indicator for a honest piece, which is a crucial notion in the land of vintage. It’s not thát hard to see why this watch went for thát money.

Path to business success:

1. Scuff up pre-moon speedy
2. Place in barn
3. Remove from barn
4. Profit!

I have a two year old Speedy for sale. It looks like hell, but I have it on good authority that it belonged to Ed White’s grandson. It’s yours for $18,000. 🙄
