eBay oddity: Additional spring-bar holder on a Connie

Hey folks,

this is really just out of curiosity, I have no intention of buying this, but this is so odd, I wanted to share it and see if somebody has seen anything similar before. This Constellation is currently online in an eBay auction, and scrolling through the pictures I couldn’t help but wonder wtf was wielded on the back of the lugs:



What is this - an additional spring bar holder? A buffer to ensure the precious medallion doesn’t touch the ground when putting the watch somewhere? 😁

Never seen this before. If you have any idea what this might be, please do share.

Good thought. Maybe a biker wanted to wear his watch like the fighter pilots on the outside of the jackets without making any sacrifices on the "dressieness" 😁

What seems most odd is that it he seemingly added bits are also plated. The effort to achieve these additions seems out of balance with any apparent resulting utility!
