Dishonest WRUW Watch "Liking"

The “likes” are those you have received from others. They are a measure of your worth as a person.

Or, they’re a measure of how much you post on WRUW
Honest confession: I was afraid to ask...didn't want to seem presumptuous or as having ulterior motives

This thread had me thinking, are there watches that are not welcomed in the WRUW thread? Is there a certain standard? Will “fashion” watches get discriminated? Smart watches?
Not talking about written forum rules, just the general consensus.

You may get a like or two. I would like this in the WRUW thread just for being Ballsy. (And I like the see through case and lugs)

It's certain that some "likes" are awarded to my photo offerings out of pity. Pity for some of the old clunkers I put up there.

I like this thread and enjoyed reading through it so I’ll go ahead and revive it. I like pretty much every post I see on WRUW if I happen to be scrolling there even if I don’t like the watch. I think if someone took the time to participate and I viewed it they get a like. Although, sometimes, rarely, I reverse this and just scroll and only like something that really stands out to me.

I do have some quirky rules though. I don’t like out of focus/blurry pictures or pictures with atrocious lighting that are just plain bad. I guess my inner American just won’t let me like those Chinese seagull watches. Sorry China. Sometimes Russian stuff too nowadays. I won’t like any smart watch, digital stuff is cool though. I’m with Scarecrow Boat that I won’t like a picture of a watch on a table or otherwise staged. The thread is for wrist shots. Unless the watch is placed in front of a cup of coffee. I like that. I won’t like a picture if the person is obviously operating a motor vehicle and taking wrist shots. For the love of god just drive. Thankfully those are rare and discouraged here. Also, as someone who isn’t into dial damage, I mean patina, I will not like a watch if the dial is completely fubar. Especially if there a comment about how great the patina is. I think that’s about it for my quirks.

Even though this post is already too long I will say I wish some other types of posts got more likes. Mainly, helpful on-topic posts in inquiry threads. I could be better about this myself especially considering I “like” pretty freely. It just seems wrong when someone takes the time to post a helpful, well thought out answer or evaluation and gets nothing, but a snarky comment or random picture will get a bunch of likes. And this is coming from a guy who posts the snarky comments and random pictures.

Please like this post if you like posts.

I have a reverse point of view. Recently, I posted a “face palm” icon when someone posted a picture of a fake watch of some sort. The face palm was meant to reflect my feelings on the watch, not aimed at the poster or his question. A prominent member and frequent poster to this message board jumped all over the “face palm”,claiming that posts such as mine are one of the biggest gripes he has with the message board! If he reads this, he’ll know who I meant by this post.

That wasn’t in the WRUW thread. It was an innocent newbie asking for some opinions on an obviously bad redial so the face palm was kind of shady.

The only ones I tend to not like are, Digital watches ( but not always ) and out of focus shots, smart watches don't generally ever qualify for likes.
Like others Likes are awarded for just about any old reason and as mentioned above even pity likes, something I am sure many of my meagre offerings get.

I want you to know that I liked you post, but not because you told me to like it. I liked it because I simply liked it and felt you should know my like by registering my like with a literal “like” 👍

I’ve always assumed that car interiors wrist shots are taken (but not necessarily posted at the time of taking) by OF members, sitting behind the wheel of their parked vehicles waiting for their husbands/wives/significant others, kids, or girlfriends/boyfriends* who were later than expected or that being ultra careful drivers, they had arrived at the rendezvous point far too early.

Or as, in my case, “Just pull up here - I'll only be a minute ….” and I find I’m spending a lot more time than I expected looking at my watch (and then photographing it) 😀.

[* Obviously I’m being careful to be properly inclusive about the OF membership and their partners]

I have taken plenty of wrist shots while sitting in the car waiting for my wife. The car is an excellent soft box and you can get great pics in it!

However, I have seen a lot of driving wrist shots shared in the wruw thread. This member was a huge culprit of it and so many of his wrist shots were taken while he was driving. I wouldn’t have shared his name like this but I just noticed he was banned (no idea why).

I like Omega watches, especially vintage Omegas in WRUW. Most vintage Swiss watches is appreciated. Citizen and Casio also get a like from me. Invictas too, I like gutsy posts. As does pictures including pets or maybe kids and family, thats always heart warming.

Most are obviously in parked cars. I’ve done that too. But some, like the example posted above, feel the need to take pictures of their watch while driving on the highway. Thankfully it’s rare here.

It might not just be OF he’s banned from?

It isn't hard for me to like most WRUW watches posted here because so many members seem to have very good taste.

Mods have made pleas before to stop doing that. It’s tempting because the car is a damn good light box.

I will occasionally go to the WRUW thread these days, but I only hit the like button for watches I like, that have clear photos. The one exception is creativity in the photos. I don't really like Speedys, but when @Mad Dog posts his, I usually can't help but like his photos.

I happened to be participating in the thread where this guy lost his shit and got himself banned. It’s gratifying in a way to confirm that his poor behavior was part of an overall pattern of assholery and not merely a momentary lapse.
