Dishonest WRUW Watch "Liking"

I’ll like a post because of the watch, the commentary or the photographs. But, no photo or commentary will save an ugly watch.

I will not like a post with out-of-focus pictures. I mean, wtf?

I very rarely like a new watch and I very rarely like a post by someone who only inhabits WRUW.

I very rarely like any Seiko (we’re telling the truth here, right?) or any ‘electric’ watch. I rarely like any luminova Speedmasters, unless it’s a special piece.

I used to refuse to like almost any Rolex. Until I bought a 5513. Now, even some Datejusts get likes from me, as long as they’re a four digit reference.

There are certain members whose posts I am more likely to like, for a variety of reasons.

There is one person I pissed off with what I thought was a funny comment and I’ve learned to be more careful.

This is a test... better here... 1130958-22e82a1f9881001379bb28201d126703.jpg

Wasn't it Dean Martin who said "I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they get up in the morning they know that's as good as they are going to feel all day." ?

I’ve always said that there’s a legibility problem with those Gemini VI Speedies.

My likes get attributes based on a number of relatively loose criteria...

...actually, come to think of it, I have just a very few number of reasons why I will NOT give a like in the WRUW:

- watch is really fugly in my eyes (have seen few of these)... or is an Apple Watch or some kind of electronic activity tracker
- picture itself is out of focus, of poor quality or somewhat inappropriate (I know it when I see it)
- when the OP never likes other people's pics (yes, including mine), and I mean never, then I don't bother liking his/her as I feel it defeats the socially friendly nature of the WRUW thread

Voilà!

Still remember Dennis and he’s comments and aversion to Feet especially bare feet.
No likes from Dennis for any part of a foot in shot.

Pretty sure he asked a member to put his next strap budget to a pair of shoes 😁

Tell him to 'put a sock in it!’ 😉

I've viewed every photo in the WRUW thread.

When I found this place not so long ago, it was just as Dennis was leaving. I was fascinated to see the variety of watches extant in the world and over time . . . surprisingly, I found the thread of some use.

I make a conscious effort not to think as I check through the postings every few days. I aim to empty my mind, and just feel the photo, taking it on at a visceral level. Occasionally I do stop to reflect, but not often.

As others have said, sometimes it's the watch, often its the photo composition, and occasionally I perceive a theme which may appeal. By why analyze that which is irrational?

I make an effort not to fall behind by more than 200 or so posts, +/-.

I post only when I change from one watch to another and sometimes I wear one watch every day for a month of more, so no additional posts during the period.

How may the thread be useful?

I've learned that people fall in and out of . . . what?

. . . Love, obsession, longing, appreciation . . . of a particular watch.

Me too.

I get to try on my regard for a particular watch, one that I may like . . . and if the feeling wears off over time, it saves me the effort required to covet the watch, hunt for the watch, buy the watch, discover I won't actually wear the watch much . . . and then finally to figure out how to sell the watch on or keep it in a drawer for others to find when I am no more.

On the other hand, sometimes I see a watch I really like and the feeling lasts . . . and so the hunt is on. 😉

WTF 😀 Open your mind there is space in there for Seiko

Turns out when you respond to a post don’t delete bits out as it really goes aray

A burning question, because inquiring minds want to know the proper answer.

Don't tell any one, but I "like" on WRUW for various other reasons besides the watches only. I enjoy "liking" as I go. Because of a certain narrow-mindedness in watch tastes I wouldn't be nearly so "like-able" about the WRUW watches if I only "liked" what I actually do like.

Some "liking" is for longtime WRUW participating Forum members. Some is because of wittiness or cleverness displayed in a WRUW post. Some is for encouraging newbies, Some is for photographic quality and composition or other interesting content (especially human interest) in a photograph. Some are awarded to the shabby ol' "survivor" watches as an atta-boy. Some "liking" is actually because I find the watches appealing. Some "liking" is ... just 'cause.

Could this be said to be dishonest "liking?" Is this a confession? Should there be a Forum thread addressing this issue?

WRUW is a great feature here on Omega Forums for there are some astonishingly fine watches as well as some winsome characters ... ahhh ... that is to say ... members here.
I like your post ... or do I? 🙄

It was only earlier this year that I realised that my tally of 'likes' was an indication of likes received.

Until then, I’d assumed, obviously incorrectly, that the number of likes under my avatar disclosed the number of 'likes' I’d awarded 😟
Until I read this thread I thought the same thing. So the like count is earned likes, not likes bestowed by me?

The “likes” are those you have received from others. They are a measure of your worth as a person.

Or, they’re a measure of how much you post on WRUW
