This chart is throwing me off: http://chronomaddox.com/romans.html

Is that not accurate? Also, when did the "First Watch Worn on the Moon" casebacks start getting used, or does that not matter?
The Romans chart was good in its time, but more info has surfaced over the years and it is somewhat less precise than more contemporary sources.

Use Speedmaster101, and if you get serious about speedies, get a copy of the Moonwatch Only book.

If all this is correct, I'm pleasantly surprised that I have a correct watch already. I'm also very happy with the price I paid, and the fact that this was my wedding gift to myself.

Have you ordered an extract? That should put the issue to bed.

On a related note, a few months ago I attended a Boy Scout fundraiser with Jim Lovell as the guest speaker. We had a chance to chat for a while afterwards, and I made sure to discuss the watch with him. He had many good things to say about his, but was sad to say it was in a museum somewhere now.

Pics aren't the best, can't see if it's a step dial and the hour hand is covering the "S". Obviously, being a 31M is out of range for a '69....
The font on step dials are the same. The font changed in 76 with some early domes in 74 and 76 with the short S.

That's being polite 😉

No kidding, I was ready to change up this watch. Thankfully I asked around first.

What makes you think that?
It's right at the cusp, I stand corrected....thanks for pointing it out.

That is fantastic! What a great Wedding Gift to yourself too, good taste.

+1 @oddboy

All the best

whats the bracelet number? That is normally closer to the date it was made

This one came on an 1172 bracelet. I have it on a Kizzi NASA strap now, and I have an original 1171 for it as well.

Correction, the watch came on a "No.12" bracelet, which I'm reading is an 1175, with #47 end links.

For the head only, I don't see anything wrong with it. To me this is a perfect daily beater. If I were you, I would get a 1039 bracelet and 516 end links and enjoy wearing the watch for years to come.

Fwiw, my '69 came on 1175/640 originally, as specified on the extract from Omega.

I prefer the 1175 but was unable to find extra links for it so I could wear it. I stumbled on a complete vintage 1171 for a good price, but I don't like how flimsy it feels. I rarely wear the Speedy, but when I do it's on the NASA velcro strap now. If I could find those spare links for the 1175 I'd wear it.

I just looked into this. Apparently they don't send extracts to U.S. customers. Why is this? Can someone get it done for me and send it to me in the mail?

Call an Omega Boutique they will email you a form. Omega due to copyright issues cannot do transactions on the internet in the US.

AFAIK that caseback ended with the 145.022-69, with the medallion caseback starting with 145.022-71 and beyond, with the NASA inscription being added around the medallion shortly after the run began on the 145.022-71.

I see nothing about that watch to think it isn't a 145.022-69
