Have you researched Speedmasters on speedmaster101.com? What is your assessment of this watch? Need more photos of all sides and movement and inside caseback before anyone can help you.

Lots of research but this all that was available from the seller. The watch will be in my view tomorrow but I have been obsessing about the font brightness and have been comparing it with others all day. Its listed as a 71 step dial and from what I gathered from 101 the asking price is fair and it looks original

The lume is not looking good. Interesting that you say it's a step dial, I'm not seeing that.

The bezel matches the year range and the case back is stamped hippocampus with nasa flight wording circling

Does the font at 12 look appropriate for this or is it a little thick. Not sure if they re-dial these but thats why I asked

The step is normally very obvious. I am not seeing it either.

I've very rarely seen a re-dialed Speedmaster that was anything other than blatantly obvious. More likely it is just bad photography.

Some people don't know what the step means.
I have learned this myself. It does look to be a 70鈥檚 model though right?

The big question is it worth restoring it if pay less then 3k usd or is that too much? It looks to be in fair condition on the 101 scale. Correct me if I鈥檓 wrong please

Yes. I think the main questions in my mind are what sub-reference, what dial, what serial numbers, and are they consistent. The seller could be innocently wrong about the details, but the watch could still be fine, just something other than what he thinks it is.

At $3k you can't go too far wrong if you actually like it. My problem is the lume plots. I'm not sure I'd enjoy the watch. Do you know anything about the bracelet? I can barely see it.

I鈥檓 bringing my tools to open it up and check the serial and case numbers. I just always wanted a vintage speedy and have learned here over that last few years about all the pitfalls that can happen

So $2900 is too much to pay in this condition?

Need to see inside for SN and inside caseback ref no. Its probably 74, 76 or 78 without step dial. Agree its fair, and price for fair in those ref more like 2000. Not very attractive watch IMO I wouldnt rush into this one.

I guess you should assume it's an 1171 bracelet, so include the value of that. Not sure what that is at the moment, $400 maybe?
