Hi all ! I’d like to have your opinion on this constellation pie pan dial. The reference of the watch is 14393 61 SC. It is announced as an original dial but I have some doubts. On first picture the date window is well sided and looks good to me, so that's a good point. As you’ll see in next picture, the dial fails MOY test but I understood from Desmond site that this can happen. Last pic makes me more skeptical : the « Constellation » font doesn’t seems good for this watch. According to Desmond’s essay on dials, it’s the type of font used in what he called « Third Phase » so if I’m not wrong late 60 / 70. What’s your opinion on that dial ? Original, Fake, refurbished ? Thanks for your help.
Hello, To me, it looks like a redial for sure. The fonts, thickness, position of text and second track, soleillage of the dial… Numerous hints
Yup, it's just a little weird that they got the serifs printed but completely failed with the sizes of the letters. In "AUTOMATIC" it's all over the place.
I see some nice redials out there recently, for example this one https://www.tradera.com/item/190118/473957580/omega-constellation-pie-pan
Thanks all for your answers. The price asked for this watch is 1500 euros. Knowing it's a redial what discount could be expected ? Or is it better not to buy ? My state of mind is : I can live with a redial but I don't want to pay premium price for it.
I don't agree that this is a "nice redial", the quality of the printing and the dial surface looks horrible.
For 1500EUR you should get a very nice original gold capped Constellation with some patience. IMO all prices are premium when its repainted, except if you just count in the value of the remaining parts. But you could probably find a similar conditioned like this for half of the asking price if that is what you looking for!
@BERTY_CLB IMO burnt money. Look at this (my) original dial: https://sta.sh/0rzaks377kh https://sta.sh/0rzaks377kh (You can zoom in!) Do you see the passed years, seasons, days ? You will miss that!
Must be the same guy - also serifs, also completely wonky writing. Printing quality is worse, though, that's far of a "nice redial" in my book. @BERTY_CLB You have to know what it's worth to you. The users here are a bunch of enthusiasts who usually wouldn't tolerate redials - regarding the price that means that the watch is worth the sum of the remaining (original) parts. 1500€ will buy you an example in nice condition, all you need is some patience. For this one, I wouldn't want to spend a 4-figure sum. /edit: @hejsam is obviously waaaay quicker in typing. My post reads like a c&p now.
Sorry to say @cineaste @hesjam is being polite - That is a terrible redial and a pretty awful frankenwatch too. edit: pics added for reference
