Spotted this beauty in Norwich late yesterday afternoon

🤬 YEAH!
Been resisting the urge to spend money and do a 5 lug conversion on my T3.
I don't know how much longer I can wait lol.

It’s swing axle FTW!
As long as you’re not racing no problems with swing axels!

looks at Triumphs… well generally no problems.

At a show & shine this week end. Not a classic, not a “rat” rod, not a true hot rod. A very customized 1940 Ford pickup, cab extended by about one foot, rear fenders extended to accommodate dual rear wheel, 2wd Chevrolet Suburban engine, transmission, differential, Suburban chassis extended one foot. Power every thing, air, cruise, tilt. Owner built. He calls it DOOLIE. A prize winner when and wherever it is shown. He had to extend his garage to accommodate “Best of Show” and “People’s Choice” trophies.

Actually, early 2000s. Circa 2002-2003. He built it so he could take his two very young (at the time) daughters when he and his wife were on the road.

Early 2000s were still being influenced by the 90s design aesthetic.

Early 2000s were still being influenced by the 90s design aesthetic.

Doolie’s buIlder is in his 60s, and an accomplished body man and mechanic. He presently has so many cars that he has had to buy two warehouses in a small town about 100 kms from here. Probably the first car in his collection is one that his late father bought new in 1972.
An AMC Javelin, which he still has. So his influences span the 30 or so years since he started collecting cars. While he favours AMC cars (he has a dozen or so), he has cars from the Big Three, as well. He now owns my former AMC Concord fastback which was my hobby car for over 30 years. I’ve shown it here, before.

This is the car his late father bought, new, in 1972. The Javelin. If it happens that there is a knowledgeable AMC person sees this, he may recognize that this car has an AMX hood on it.

Much like Foo, my idea that there is some 90s influence in the 40 Ford comes from the wheel choice. While the work itself is timeless on that build the wheels evoke a very specific time for me. Those are reminiscent of dozens of rods I've seen built throughout the 90s and into the early 00s.
