Finally bought a ‘64 VW squareback, a 1500 ‘S’. Goes pretty well to be fair!

I regularly see this 1979 BMW 520 on my way to work in Huddersfield. Not sure if it’s considered a classic but I don’t see many around and doesn’t look too shabby for a 43yr old

At some point in their lives a Rolls Royce becomes a Roller. Slightly run down, almost seedy. Think of a shabby man in a savile row suit.

While not technically an F1 car, still completely not allowed...despite what appears to be a California license plate on the wing hah.

The one at the back is a "chain gang" Frazer-Nash.

I suspect the front one is too, but the oven timer has just gone off. Back after supper....

Leicester? OK then, they are on their way to the F-N Centenary Ball on Saturday 20th August at Stonehurst Farm (Leicestershire) , then to the nearby Mallory Park circuit for the VSCC race meeting on Sunday 21st.

Centenary Ball -- black tie? Are regular neck-ties oil-stained black allowed???

“Chain Gang”! Is that the car with sprockets and bicycle-type chains for a transmission, instead of gears? Grand daddy of the modern CVT transmission. If that is it, maintenance must have been a nightmare! And likely, noisy, I suspect.

Not really a CVT, they were fixed ratio gears, like a bicycle. The first successful CVT I can think of is the DAF Variomatic of the 1960s, but there were earlier efforts like the Austin, pardon me some googling needed here, Hayes gearbox of the 1930s. History is littered with attempts at variable ratio gearing in smooth progression but mostly in vain. Even Alec Issigonis couldn't make it work.
