Someone posted while I was writing.
So the A5 is open C and A6 is closed C?
Yes, A5 has open C, but I've seen most of them on the 2998-2 and few on 2998-1. Don't know which one preceded which though.

"You actually have two different bezels. The 2998-2 has A5 and 2998-1 has A6."

Yup. You are correct. Thanks
yes, they are both correct. On the 2998-1 it is the better looking IMO due to the more serif numbers. The bezel on the 2998-2 is also correct and has almost no serifs on the numbers. The socalled third version with flying away dots in the bottom area is resembling to a version of the all steel bezel on some 2915's. However this version I do not 100% trust to be the real thing but maybe it was a small batch produced my another manufacturer, who knows.

There is not the TINIEST difference, other than wear, between the two bezels below (current eBay auction on top, timezone pic on the bottom). The implication for me is that if the eBay bezel is fake, it's so good that no one will ever be able to prove it's fake, so case closed.

Dear all,

I had a quick look at that topic and here is my concern, which is not directly related to the bezel you are discussing about:

Hypothesis 1: there is only ONE guenine version of "steel base 1000" and of "black base 1000".
Consequence: we were wrong in the book and more importantly, the majority of 2915s and 2998-1 -2s do not have a guenine bezel.

Hypothesis 2: there were several typography providers for each type and thus several bezel versions. In this case, it means that it's more difficult to track repros.

Hypothesis 2b: the variants might come from replacement parts made in the 1960s, then can we consider them as valuable as the "original"?

To the end, I would not state if the black 1000 here is guenine or not, but when bezels are so close to the guenine (hey which one is guenine?), my opinion is that it's more acceptable than the service bezels provided by Omega.
If only Omega decided to produce such parts, the debate would be ended...

Thanks ! Tho still looking through...

How about the last 0 in 200?
It is looks narrower and is cut off on the bottom right. Seems to be jammed in there.
(The last 0 in 100 looks a little smaller also.)

as compared to this example where there is more room along the whole right side of the bezel between the edge and the numbers: jg2998.jpg

Thanks to this thread (which discussions I can't quite follow) and the amazing contributors I have ordered a copy of MWO, surprisingly available from Barnes & Nobles and Target - s/b fun fall/winter reading.

The same seller has two mint 2998 dials for sale

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121795915254

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-1...904028?hash=item1c5b9a021c:g:xHgAAOSwwbdWKpyR

Probably bought at the same time that he bought the 1000 bezel.

Quote from the tachy 1000 ebay listing:"I bought it along with a case and some other parts from a 2915-3 in 2011. It came from a watchmaker who had stored it since the early 70s since the watch had had a water damage. I bought these parts in the USA."

Apparently seller is back, now with an old eBay account, maybe I'm wrong but it seems very strange similarity of items for sale.
