I’ve got the current rubber strap sitting in a drawer waiting to fit to my 2254. I’m glad you’ve put a pic up...! Makes me want to get it on now. Suits it very well. Was it an easy swap?

Well, the fit is rather tight, if you use the standard Omega 1.8x20(19.5)mm spring bars (these are used for the ss bracelet).
It doesnt just slip into the hole but does require some effort puting it inside. So if you have no experience changing straps and no proper spring bar tool, i can imagine this job a bit challenging. Otherwise there is no magic involved 😀 However it makes changing of straps a bit of a PITA.

I also dont know how it affects the strength of the spring bar on the long run, since they are a bit under tension. To me personaly it feels that the fit is solid enouth, so i am wearing it without worry.

These are lovely and seem very much a cult watch. Can I ask why Omega made this variant from the bond SMP 300? It seems a bold departure?

What is the lug width on these too?

Lug width is 20mm

Here’s a good video about this watch...

@rossonero3 thanks for sharing the video, I have been trying to decide between the 2254 and the 2201 PO. After watching this video it just has to be the 2254 😀

These have been very popular lately...a 2254 just sold on Reddit in less than 15min after being posted, although it was probably the best example out there because it was in brand new condition, full box and papers etc and even the original magazine advert lol., even with all that though, it's still less $ than the PO. Tough call between the two, you really need to decide what it is about each one you like/dislike...good luck!

They are definitely popular at the moment, good examples go really fast...luckily I am not in too much of a rush as I have already purchased 2 watches this year! Although that one would have been hard to turn down if I had seen it lol!

I am stuck in the what seems to be the very common conundrum of having a 7" wrist so leaning towards the 2254 as it is thinner and most threads seem to favor the 2254 for my wrist size, but I prefer the bezel on the PO.

Yeah, i don't think 42mm is too much at all for a 7", but the case thickness of the PO at 14.5 is really only the biggest difference between these watches. If you look at the full dimensions, in every other aspect they are very similar.

Strangely somebody I know sold one(auto) last year fresh from Omega service, absolutely pristine with box papers etc. He put it on eBay with £2,250 or best offer and when I spoke to him several weeks later the highest offer he'd received was £1,800. I told him he shouldn't let it go for less than £2k but was really suprised he hadn't been offered that or more already. No idea what he got for it in the end.

Fantastic watches! I'd have bought that one off him myself if only I'd had the money.

I was faced with the same choice 12 years ago and I also have a smaller wrist. I went with the 2254 and have never regretted it for the following reasons:
- height - the 2254 is already a chunky watch. I happen to like chunky watches but the PO is just too tall.
- dial - the 2254 has one of the nicest dials in the history of Omega dive watches. I have quite a few vintage pieces but the 2254 is already a classic in my opinion. I don't feel the same way about the flat black on the PO.
- bracelet - the 2254 double row, polished links are the nicest design of the modern Omega bracelets and the alignment to the Speedy connects both of these iconic models.
- crystal - the AR coating on the top of the crystal kind of defeats the purpose of having sapphire. I would prefer the plain, hard sapphire of the 2254, or acrylic of the moon watch, that can be polished over the AR coated crystal of the PO.

Good luck with your choice. I realize that style is very subjective and I apologize in advance if I have offended and PO owners as both models are excellent watches.
