Thanks @kov for the awesome research and fantastic photos and information.

Just curious though, do all the cal.1620 require 2 x 1.55V (or are they 1.35V?) battery cells and how long do they typically last?

Sorry I've just realized that I totally missed this question, my apologies. 馃槦

cal.1620 works with 1.55V batteries. According to my own experience, they last for 9 months to a year, depending on batteries you put it. By the way, I recommend to immediately remove empty batteries to reduce battery leak risk...

Sorry, no idea where you can find a spare cal 1620. Set some saved searches on eBay, look for a thrashed cheap donor watch 馃槈

Do Omega Bienne have spare movements, or parts to repair broken movements, if you send direct to them?

Omega do have crystals, gaskets, pushers etc... at the very least. You鈥檒l need to send away for a full service though.

How do you do it?
These are as rare as hen's teeth. Is this the third or fourth one to pass through your hands?

Actually I wasn鈥檛 really looking for it, it just crossed my path. And to be honest, I am not planning to keep it. 馃槈

To be really accurate, it鈥檚 the 4th in my possession. I had one numbered and it鈥檚 the third unnumbered. But overall I had about ten in my hands. 3 numbered and I think 7 unnumbered since I started researching on them. Considering the scarcity, indeed it鈥檚 quite impressive 馃憤

Hey, @kov : I am late to discover this thread, but wanted to write nonetheless to express my thanks to you for such an informative, fascinating and well done thread. Thanks also for the reference to your website - i鈥檝e checked it out and am likewise impressed and delighted.

On a semi-serious and personal note, I will try to stop reading this thread now as I already have a big soft spot for digital/lcd/led watches and this beautiful thread just makes me want to pick up some Omega digital watches!

In any case, thank again for your great and inspiring work!

An interesting addition to the documentation about the Alaska IV prototypes.

Here's how a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Omega for an Unnumbered Alaska IV watch does look like :

ah ok. Oh yes I forgot about this page. Shame it's not your watch - they must be great finds if there are any out there. Shame again mine is just a 'normal' one.
