Umm with respect, what are you talking about? The OP specifically described the FOIS which has neither auto wind or date. The FOIS is a very tough sell for both ADs and second hand owners.

Well! Pardon me! If useful options are a remote consideration, he can have a Speedmaster (admittedly not a FOIS) with a lot more useful day to day features than the German one! Just trying to give him options to consider! By your very own admission, it seems the Speedmaster with all the options is better in the after market! Does that put your nose back in joint?

It was never out of joint but you were offering benefits of the Speedmaster which aren't actually there on the model the OP specified so my post was one of confusion. Yes you can have an new auto wind watch badged as Speedmaster, either smaller (the Racing models) or much thicker with 2 registers (the 9300 models) but not one that looks anything like a Moonwatch, not anymore. The Speedmaster which does best in the aftermarket seems to be the basic man wind Pro model (311.30.42.30.01.005) since these hold the biggest % of their new price so I think you misunderstood my point which wasn't that the autos hold value well: they don't.

In my opinion...A well designed independent watch should be serviceable by a good watchmaker. I don't see that as an issue.

If by service you mean oiling ... Then yes...

If you mean "replacing hands and dial after a traumatic event" then you are rolling the dice (at best).

Again not necessary a showstopper, but should be an item of your "think it through before you open your wallet" list.
