·I tried the alum solution method and it does indeed work though it can be laborious. It also eroded the rubber gasket inside the crown. Ultimately it didn't quite do the job with my Omega for some reason ( thread worn?) and I ended up buying a new stem and crown.

At this point, the crown is unusable.. I guess there is nothing to lose, gonna give it a shoot.
