A beaut’!

I don’t know much about Porsche, but that vintage-ish of 911 alway been a fave.

Seems there’s a big pop culture resurgence for them, too, which has to be nice when you’ve already got one!

Watches and cars have a lot in common.

Yeah, pick your poison! I assume @Archer ’s was a BMW?

Yep - M2 back when they were very difficult to get.

It seems to me that Rolex under supply trick is crawling to other industries. Car industry seems to follow, now it’s a seller’s market. What’s next? Bread?

Well for carmakers, there really is a supply problem. They can’t get the cheap computer chips required since a lot of chipmakers pivoted away from the cheap chips during Covid 19 because auto sales plummeted. Now the chipmakers aren’t going to pivot back to making cheap chips.

Car makers aren’t pivoting to use newer chips because they’re more expensive, R&D needs to be spent on new circuitry, and the new chips need to be tested to make sure they work in all conditions.

Well I already read this explanation.
Just wondering: why car chips and not telephones for example.

Chipmakers make more money on phone chips vs car chips and new phone demand never collapsed so chipmakers never shifted focus.

Good thing too that phone chips haven't collapsed or all those smart phone wearers would be clamoring for watches...

(a feeble attempt to redirect this thread to watches after feeling partially responsible for derailing it.) 😉

If only Omega would shift some production to 321 watches.... Maybe make another 20-50 a year then what they're currently making. Not a huge amount but enough where more people could actually get one with a wait.

Which does circle back to my prior wild conjecture: originally, Omega vaguely signaled it would aspire (I think is a fair characterization) to make around 1,000/yr (specifically, the cited about 2,000/yr for all 321 models to include the platinum - and I think somewhere vaguely suggested a 1/2-1/2 split). All such info was never concrete, certainly not committal.

And of course it’s merely armchair musing, but since the earliest dribble of 321s being reported here it sure seems things have slowed over time rather than picked up.

Makes me curious to chat with my OB contact…

Called and spoke to the manager if a rather large U.S. OB from where I obtained my 321, and have had my name “on the list” for the Snoopy.

For the 321: he said that since release they’ve received a total of 10 pieces, all allocate by Bienne by name to individuals; he reiterated that Omega is *aspiring* (“not committing”) to 1000/yr globally but seems like maybe they’re not doing quite that many in 2021; also, that they’ve been told Omega will make them for only ~5 years total, maybe a year more or less (emphasis because it’s the first I’ve heard of this)

But the perhaps more interesting bit was about the Snoopy - which I guess I should take to a Snoopy thread

Tbf, Omega never said they would make 2k a year. They only said at the time they had the capacity to do it.

I honestly never thought Omega would actually go full tilt and churn out that many watches a year. I always figured 500 a year total would be more realistic.

I 100% agree about the lack of any commitment, and if I suggested otherwise it was an accident.

I always thought Omega was conspicuously hedging it’s aspirations for *total* 321 production, much less the commitment on what portion of 321s they would choose to put in a SS case rather than platinum.

Baring in mind the margins on a platinum are far higher: were I only about the money, every time I received a platinum order, I’d fill it before filling a SS allocation.

Trade you my 321 for your 718.

What did they say about the Snoopy?

AH. I was looking for it in the "other" snoopy thread and that is why I didn't see it! Thank you. Very interesting.

Id made an imperfect call between two good options - in the end I went with the thread discussing deposit returns

if someone else found it helpful to cross-link in the other Snoopy thread I of course don’t mind, but was self-conscious of spamming
