I was hoping that I wouldn’t like it, but as is so often the way with Omega products, it was much better in the metal than in online photos.
The stuff I can live without:-
The cork/Velcro/gold leaf strap. I’m sure I would never use it.
The LEV watch pad thing. It would live exclusively in the presentation box.
The box. It’s well made but I don’t wear boxes, so superfluous for me personally.
The stuff I expected to strongly dislike:-
Buzz at 9 o’clock. I hardly noticed it at arms length and under a loupe it is very nicely executed. So a non-issue.
The blue-grey dial. The first computer renderings seemed to be (darkish) grey and I was sure I wasn’t going to like anything remotely blue as seen in some early photos. My impression was of one of grey rather than blue, so again not a problem.
Anything two-tone. Thankfully the bracelet, pushers and crown are all steel and Moonshine Gold is quite pale so the combined effect is rather harmonious.
What I wasn’t expecting:-
The dial, hour markers and especially their lume treatment and trans-dial step precision (I want to look at this under a x200 microscope), case finishing, and flat link bracelet are all excellent.
The “11” markers are practically invisible to my naked (old git) eyes. Which is actually a pity because it has been done very nicely.
Sum up:-
Really great watch, keep the packaging.
I won’t be canceling my order. If you have one on order already and are a fan you won’t be disappointed. If you are a “waiverer” wait until you have at least had it in your hands before jumping to any hasty decisions. If you hated it before, you might hate it a little less in the metal but are unlikely to change your mind.
Cheers
Nick
Now just to throw a spanner in the works, there were some very tasty (privately owned) Speedies at today’s Speedy Tuesday event. Two impressed me greatly; the 45th Anniversary Ti/Sedna gold one and the impossibly nice Tokyo white panda dial Speedy. Hopefully I will never have to choose just one from these three.
