Just so you know, as a Rolex owner I took no offense to your post. Some people seem to want to be offended at every little thing someone says these days...

Oh brother...

I wasn't offended by the OP because I don't care what he thinks about me. 😁

Frankly, my personal opinion is that while I love Rolex, I have a few, I wouldn’t buy a Daytona if I wanted a chronograph watch. First I think Omega, Breitling or Zénith are probably better, I personally think they look better, and the polished center links on the Daytona are scratches magnets, not to mention I keep hearing how some people have had issue with the push button popping up...

polished center links are definitely attractive and make a bold statement, but I’d be lying not to admit that I have had to be slightly judicious of what jacket or dress shirt to wear with them based on cufflinks and metal zippers or buttons at the cuff.

The situation has me often lusting over a black cordura strap or a nato.

I find that comment to be quite condescending and... offensive.

LOL. j/k. etc. 😉

I like Rolex as much as the next guy, but I now only buy used. No Rolex dealers near me stock any of the models people want to buy, and when they do get them, they are sold to "friends" who promptly flip for a profit. No thanks.

That said, I do like my vintage DJ. No waiting list!

i am in the market for my first real luxury watch, and have been in a similar boat. Rolex AD's practices really struck a bad chord with me. While i save up and decide on my final purchase i am torn between a speedmaster professional moon phase 3576.50.00 and a sub. Like others have mentioned it seems local rolex AD's seem to only sell to certain clientele which really kills my desire to deal with them

They'll sell to anyone if you want to buy a precious metal watch in a common model like a DJ or sub.

After you buy 3 or 4 $30k+ gaudy baubles, they'll add you to the secret list of people offered stainless sport watches that people actually wear outside the rap music community 😉

Hello forum, new member here…;-)

To come right to the point I was never particularly interested in watches and for the last few years I was only wearing smart watches because I was into analyzing the data a lot…

Then, all of a sudden this changed and I started thinking that at well over 50 I might need a real watch for a change.

So after spending a lot of time on the different watch blogs and forums I decided that the Daytona WG was the one watch that ticked all the boxes for me. I liked the looks and the fact that it doesn’t depreciate even though it’s quite a substantial investment.

So I innocently walked into the local AD only to discover that to get that kind of watch you have to be a very patient person… Which I’m not. And the more I read about the mechanisms of the Rolex way of doing business the more I felt that this brand is not for me. And on top of that I discovered that now that I’d started to pay attention to what kind of watches people were wearing the ones that had a Rolex were in most cases easily categorized as posers… Now I know this is a huge generalization but that was just the impression I got.

Long story short; I’m still on the waitlist for the illusive Daytona but in the mean time I have acquired three beautiful Speedmasters and even if the call from the AD should eventually arrive I think I will pass on it… I’d rather wait for the Snoopy LE due in 2020…;-)

This is not intended to be derogatory to any Rolex owner, but for me personally they won’t get any of my business. Especially since I learned that even the largest AD chain in my country is selling their stuff to the grey market to make a nice profit…

Hope you enjoy my small collection!

Cheers!

Beautiful collection! I love the dark side of the moon speedy!
