So to be clear is this the new SMPc?

I know omega is really pushing to only out out METAS watches, so it is no surprise that the put that movement in here. That being said it would have been really hard to keep it at 41mm without creating a new movement which I assume they don't have?

I also like the 41mm. I definitely want to see this one in person.

The 8800 in this is fairly new - mid 2016 I believe based on when the first tech guides were published. It's an 11.5 ligne movement, so only 26 mm in diameter and 4.6 mm thick, compared to say the 8900 that is 13 lignes, so 29 mm and 5.5 mm thick.

The new 1948 models also appear to be based on the 8800 movement that is in this one (8804 and 8805 - no tech guides available yet), and those watches are 38 mm in diameter, so this certainly could have been smaller in diameter. It's not typically the movement that really determines the watch diameter - it does in some watches but for most that is a design decision that is made aside from the movement diameter.

Cheers, Al

Am I the only one not liking this new wave dial? I may come around, when I see it in person and how it reflects light but the photos so far are not selling this to me. I like the old wave dial far more. This looks cheap I think. Also I do not like how the waves stop near the edge of the dial, looks abruptly cut off or something.

Before the waves were much more subtle but now they are a very protruding on the dial along with a lot of other things: hour markers, text. I think the dial looks way more busy than the older wave dial not to mention the clean dials of the current version (time to get one now it seems), which does not suit this watch still being a diver.

I agree that the size increase are a poor choice. Not much difference but the SM300 Diver had such good proportions.

And the myriad of colours... typical Omega. Instead of saving some for next year they throw it all out there.

My conclusion is that if Omega had hopes to gain on the Submariner with this they have failed. From what I have seen so far.

What a disappointment. Apart from the movement, I'm not liking it at all. For a diver, the blue 39.5 PO 8800 is a better-looking watch. And for the price, I'll take last year's non-LE RM over this one.
Same here. I was about to make a decision but wanted to wait until Baselworld. Seems the non-LE RM will be my choice.

Not sure I like the new dial design either, although it needs to be seen in person, of course. But to me it comes across as a half-hearted effort to laser some curved lines into the current model's dial. And the waves may end up being a bit too overt in day-to-day wear.

I also agree on the size increase. How is that desirable with case sizes generally trending down in the industry? And given that with this new version, they have also eliminated the mid-sized version of the watch?

Well, I have to say that this is not nearly as bad as I feared it would be based on the snippets from Instagram earlier in the week. I certainly prefer the blue and black dial more than the gray dial. I also like super luminova my bezel, such as my x-33 solar impulse.

Although I prefer three dimensional waves, I do think these waves look much better than the ones they tried putting on that limited-edition watch last year (or the year before). The amplitude on the waves on the previous watch was too tall.

I like watches in titanium, so I’m eager to see what that model is going to look like and how much it will weigh. Sucks that it will be an LE.

Also on this one, the helium valve is waterproof even when open. I'll never use it but it'd make me that bit more comfortable bringing it in water... Don't know how I feel about the shape though. Again, I want to see this in person.

The current valve has 50m of water resistance when open also...they really don't say how much this one is rated for when open though.

When I first saw this a liked it but having looked a few more times I’m not so sure.

The dial does look busy with those new waves and the underlined minute markers. Think I prefer the original bezel design too.

I wonder if the the blue strap will be available with the blue dial version or available separately.

So the older model will see a cost cut or production stop ? I really like the see through caseback. Might even buy this when its in stock...
dont like that wave dial too much though but newer model has a sapphire caseback which is a wow point to me.

Hopefully will see a cost cut at least at AD's or on grey market. Are servicing costs higher on the METAS movements?

I'm sure it can be done at the AD since the blue / grey combo offers the blue rubber strap.

I actually do just that and have severe oxygen deprivation as a result 😁

Ok after seeing this video i am done with it and glad i purchased the "old" SMPc early this year. There are few improvements like the clasp, date at 6, the bracelet is very toolish, movement and so on but there are a few things that itches my eyeballs: bracelet endlings, the crown of the of corse dual save he-valve looks like from my tooth paste, the minute track, i cant decide if i like the waves but i dont like the periodic sign for ceramic and the printed logo. I am sure this will sell well, its just not for everybody but thats something the seamaster never was. I hope the pricebump will stabilize the older ones a little and maybe the glossy dial will be a classic in the future.

I've been looking at the SMP 300m this past few weeks and when I see the pics of the new SMPc, I really like it.

At the moment, by looking at the photos, I prefer the SMPc300m to a Submariner.
I can't wait until it's available at the OB to try it and see if I still think it's better than the Submariner.

Lately on this and other forums I have noticed that members will look up my posts and reference them. In most forums you can actually see who has checked your profile recently as well. If you did look most of my contributions are about hands on smp models.

If you say so herc, no need to get squirrely so soon after basil. Thanks for the offer but I'll pass until you're real famous and stuff.
