I like the X-33 in general. I even have the Solar Impulse edition. And I get that it does a lot of timing things. But one thing it's not: a water friendly watch. So why oh why would they use it for the America's Cup special edition? 3 bar WR, don't fall off the yacht!
I doubt you're gonna get dunked 30m down while falling off a yacht you're tied into with a safety harness. Also, all aboard wear personal floatation devices (PFDs).

The X-33 will be fine, though it's probably only the skipper wearing one. The others I'd guess are wearing the ETNZ Deep Black.

would you mind explaining how this process works? i have purchased watches from overseas before but never from an AD. i would imagine ADs "follow the rules" more so than smaller, second hand vintage dealers.

I have my name down for a seamaster 300 w an AD in the U.K. The price minus VAT is less than the US and u don't get hit w sales tax BUT depending on the carrier they use you might end up paying import duties on it which would be about 250 bucks so between exchange rate no sales tax and price already cheaper then yes jt makes sense to me to do it

Got it, thank you. I too spoke with a UK AD and the MSRP minus VAT is significantly cheaper. I used https://www.dutycalculator.com/ and it estimated my duty owed would be about $500 in IL. Even with a duty of $500, the final price of importing a UK watch would be significantly less than the US MSRP, this isnt even including IL sales tax of 10.25%, which makes the UK watch that much cheaper. And it is possible I may luck out not have to pay duty. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Everyone might do it until UK allocations dry up completely.

Technically yes, market wise you are way off the point.

Did not mean any disrespect. Just saying 3 bars is what a water splash from the tap at home? At the same time speedmaster dedicated to ETNZ and supposed to be on board a yacht. Betcha won't stay tight engulfed in water under a wave hit. Plus, how shall i say it? Imagine a Seamaster having tightness of 50 m? How gonna market this piece?
It is obvious they simply took X33 and put ETNZ logo at the back. My opinion is that they might have done much better.

Technically No
The myth that 3 bars is water splash only lives again

3 bars = 30meters /100ft water resistant
it says it in the add, Easy as that
( I would swim, shallow dive with a watch with a 3 bar rating )

As someone that's actually done regattas in the past, I wouldn't hesitate to do one with a watch rated for 3 bars.

You really don't get wet, unless you're bad. Even then, you don't go more than 6' deep, and if a 30m watch fails at 6', that speaks really poorly of that brand.
