Bad newbie purchase AKA How many things can be wrong with a 300$ Omega Seamaster from Peru?

Seriously, I don't understand what you are doing.
All the people here are telling you: Accept your mistake, return that *#%& watch to the seller, and be happy to pay just the shipping.
But you want half of the shipping costs from the seller or money back and keep the watch? Based on what?
What do you want with that watch?
Pay the shipping and return that watch and don't try anything else. Your mistake, your costs!

And before buying another watch, do your due diligence.

Well, I would have accepted if he had just said: "OK, return the watch, pay the shipping," but instead he tries to bargain - saying he'll return 70$ and let me keep the watch this leads me on to think that he is very much informed that what he was selling is faulty, and of little worth. So much so, the he suspects he couldn't sell it again.

Also I have arguments against him which expose his dishonesty to an extent.

Do you want to continue interacting with the seller, or do you want your money back? Stop complicating the situation.

In the future, just buy directly from this forum 😀 its not fault proof, but if something inauthentic comes up members will be quick to comment on it 😀

If the seller said he accepts returns on an Ebay ad there is nothing to negotiate.
You only have to say don’t like it and ask for a return.
if he won’t accept that,you open an Ebay case and ît’ll be resolved very quickly in your favor.
But you’re the only person who can decide that obviously.

As Syrte advised yesterday, there shouldn't be any need for negotiations so why you continue to do so once again is baffling, why not just take the advise given below, this is how it works and the seller wouldn't have any choice but to accept the return and refund.

This seller’s ad says they accept returns, so you don’t need to justify anything! You can just click « request a return» and say «I don’t like it ».
You could also add, but that’s overkill «upon examination it turns out the dial is refinished ».
End of story.

Not meaning to get at you at all, we all learn as we go but just suggesting you take the helpful advise that has been given already to save yourself further stress.

How has this run to 5 bloody pages?!

It runs to 5 pages as people would rather argue than follow quality advice

I currently did the same thing on another forum to help someone,, but that only ran 5 responses till (I assume) he will take my advice and get the watch checked once received.

I didn't read all "bloody pages" but PERU , Seamaster and 300$ should be enough to keep off your fingers from that watch

why don't you just relist the watch on ebay? it has at least an automatic movement and an authentic case and a (badly) refurbished dial. the value of the sum of its parts is about that what you had paid, so you should end up with no significant loss. I don't see the seller having made any mistake in the listing so he should not be blamed - also, be aware of a possible customs problem when returning to Peru. this thread is already two weeks old, if you had relisted the watch you could have already sold it and moved on to the next project by now. the "on hand" lessons you have learned in this process are gold for the future compared to the money you paid for them.
